PREVIEW: BAGLAN DRAGONS (A)

Aberystwyth Town hit the road for the first time in 2026 this Saturday, as Craig Williams’ side travel to face Baglan Dragons in search of their first victory of the new year.

The Black & Greens had to show some resilience on New Year’s Day, coming from behind to secure a point at home against Carmarthen. That result lifted Aber into fifth place in the league, moving them closer to the crucial third spot currently occupied by Ammanford AFC.

This weekend’s hosts, Baglan Dragons, are in their third season at this level after finishing as runners-up in the Ardal South West League in 2023. After securing 10th place in their debut campaign, they improved last season with an eighth-place finish.

Carl Clements’ side have experienced a mixed campaign so far and currently sit 11th in the table with 19 points from 17 matches, having recorded four wins and seven draws.

They do come into the fixture in encouraging recent form, however. A Boxing Day home victory over local rivals Afan Lido was followed by a goalless draw away at Llantwit Major on New Year’s Day.

Nathan Logan is the Dragons’ leading scorer this season with five goals, while Dylan Thomas tops their assist charts with three. Thomas Davies and Andzejs Dubjaga have also contributed in front of goal, with Davies scoring four times and Dubjaga netting three — all of which came against Afan Lido in the Boxing Day derby victory.

The two sides have already met twice this season. Aber claimed a 2–1 victory at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue in August in what was the team’s first home league match of the campaign. Later that month, Baglan returned to Ceredigion in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup and edged a 1–0 win.

Both clubs have been active in the January transfer window. Aber have added Ukrainian midfielder Erik Savkin to their squad following his spell at Redditch Borough, while Baglan have strengthened with the signing of Roman Legavec from Pontardawe Town.

Baglan Dragons play their home matches at Evans Bevan Playing Fields on Pinewood Terrace, Port Talbot (postcode SA12 8BH). Limited parking is available at the ground, with additional parking at Baglan Train Station, just a five-minute walk away. Join us as ATFC hit the road for the first time in 2026!
