JD Welsh Premier League
Saturday 3rd February (4:15p.m Kick Off) Barry Town United v Aberystwyth Town Aberystwyth Town will look to continue their fine recent form as they travel to face Barry Town on Saturday evening, in the first round of fixtures of the JD Welsh Premier League Play Off Conference. Town’s last two fixtures saw them thump second placed Connah’s Quay Nomads 4-2 at Park Avenue, before beating Cardiff Met at Cyncoed Campus to advance to the JD Welsh Cup quarter-finals last weekend. Aber now return to league action with another trip to Jenner Park, as they set their sights on the all-important seventh placed finish that would see them rewarded with a Europa League play off game at the end of the season. Following last weekend’s massive JD Welsh Cup victory away at Cardiff Met, Town manager Nev Powell was quick to sing the praises of his players once again, and emphasised how impressed he was with the side’s doggedness and determination. In an interview after the game, Powell commented; “We knew they (Cardiff Met) would come at us 100 miles per hour, but we dug in and second half I felt we were the better side. There’s no doubt that it’s a massive win for us”. Aber’s attentions return to league action this weekend, where they currently lie in 10th place, just six points behind top spot in the Play Off Conference. Manager Nev Powell will now be hopeful that his side are able to maintain their recent winning form as they chase the pack above them in the hunt for a Europa League play off place. Town’s squad was yet again boosted this week by the signing of central defender Craig Rogers, who will be pushing for a place in the starting eleven come Saturday evening. This weekend’s hosts Barry Town United have enjoyed a successful return to the JD Welsh Premier League thus far, missing out on the top six positions in the league table by just four points at the split. They currently lie in 9th place in the league table, five points above the seasiders, and have been boosted by the signings of Jonathan Hood, James Demetriou and Joaquin Estirado Rivera during the January transfer window. Saturday marks the third time the sides will have met this season, after Aber grabbed a late equaliser at Jenner Park back in August, before being held to a goalless draw at Park Avenue in October. In what is sure to be another cracking game in South Wales, come on down and join the large contingent of supporters that roared Aber on to victory in the capital last weekend. Kick Off at Jenner Park is at 4:15p.m, and Barry Town United’s postcode is listed as CF62 9BG. Nev Powell’s side look to go marching on to another victory! |
