Aberystwyth Town Football Club are delighted to announce that last season’s top scorer Declan Walker has committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension for the 2018/19 season. After missing close to 18 months of football due to a serious knee injury, and being told he might never play football again, Declan joined the club at the beginning of last season to link up with former manager at Bangor City, Nev Powell. Despite those 18 months on the sidelines, the right back came back more determined than ever and proved to be one of Town’s standout players last season, scoring 14 goals in all competitions and finishing as the club’s top goalscorer. He provided some memorable moments for Aber’s supporters last season including a stunning hat-trick away at Carmarthen Town as well as a brace in the JD Welsh Cup Semi-Final against Newtown. Talking exclusively to Aber Town’s media team this week, Declan commented “I’m very pleased to extend my contract with the club. I really enjoyed playing here last season and after being out injured for such a long time it was good to get a full season under my belt. Reaching the cup final was a great achievement for us last season, because everyone seemed to have written us off after the first 8 games, but we knew we had great players within the squad capable of turning things around, which is what we managed to do in the end.” When asked about the upcoming season, Aber’s marauding full back was keen to emphasise his excitement; “As a team we need to be pushing for a top 6 place this season as well as another good cup run, and on a personal level I just want to keep working hard and try and better my goal tally from last season.” Everyone at the club is certainly delighted to have Declan on board for the forthcoming season, and Town’s supporters will be keen to see him produce more memorable moments in front of goal next season! Aberystwyth Town are delighted to reveal that the club’s digital media channels received nearly ten million views during the 2017/18 season, along with over one million visitors, which represents an increase of over 73% from the 2016/17 season. Club Marketing Officer Mart Smith, who has been tracking the performance of the club’s digital media channels across the season told atfc.org.uk the following: “It’s been another season of huge success off the pitch for Aberystwyth Town, with mammoth growth in our digital performances compared to the previous seasons. The peak performance was seen during preseason when another piece of the club’s digital content went super viral and got featured in an array of national newspapers. The fantastic post-split form shown by the players resulted in a strong finish not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well as the club soared to nearly ten million views and smashed over one million visitors which represented a huge percentage increase from the previous report. During the season the club had many memorable moments, notably, the incredible JD Welsh Cup performance which took the club all the way to the Cup Final held at Newtown. Incredible victories throughout the season against the likes of Connah’s Quay Nomads and Bala Town contributed to the fantastic buzz on social media for all things Aberystwyth Town!” For those with an interest in statistics, citizens from London, Cardiff, Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester formed the top five in the most visits to atfc.org.uk across the 2017/18 season when the residents of Aberystwyth were taken out of the equation. The most visited news articles were claimed by the exciting build up for the JD Welsh Cup final appearance versus Connah’s Quay Nomads. For those unaware of the terminology used in this article, a ‘view’ represents the number of times an article or page is looked at and ‘visitors’ represents a period of time spent within the online platform. Users may of course make more than one visit during a period of time. After being recently presented with an analytical report of the club’s digital media channels, the Aberystwyth Town directors were quick to look to the future and lather the praise upon the hardworking team of volunteers. Thomas Crockett, the club’s Marketing Director said “These amazing figures demonstrate that there is a massive audience out there for Aberystwyth Town Football Club and the Welsh Premier League. On behalf of the club I would like to publicly thank our fantastic media team for their tireless work promoting the club on social media this season.” The club’s talented team of media and marketing volunteers, spearheaded by Tom Bates and Thomas Crockett consists of Matthew Wallace, Owain Evans, Tomos Ings, Chris Howells, Chris Hefferan, Dilwyn and Llinos Roberts-Young, Adam Bitchell, Jordan Payne, Mart Smith, Steve Brookes, Tom Bates and Thomas Crockett.
