Aberystwyth Town are delighted to confirm the retention of defender Steff Edwards for the 2019/20 season. Steff rejoined Aber Town last summer from Airbus in the Huws Gray Alliance, following a previous spell with the club back in 2010, when he made 32 appearances during the 2010/2011 season including two appearances in the Europa League First Round Play-Offs, scoring three goals during his stay at Park Avenue. Edwards rejoins the Black and Greens with a wealth of Welsh Premier League experience. He made his 200th WPL start back in April 2019 and is a Welsh Under 18 international who started his career with Gresford Athletic, before joining Cefn Druids in 2008. Steff has also played in the Welsh Premier League with Welshpool Town (2009), Bala Town (2011-2014) and Newtown (2014-2016) and has made a total of six appearances in the Europa League Qualifying Round. Steff has scored nine goals in 203 Welsh Premier League appearances, and is sure to strengthen Matthew Bishop’s squad ahead of the season opener at Cambrian & Clydach Vale next week. Pre Season Friendly Aberystwyth Town 5 Tregaron Turfs 0 A brace apiece from new signings Luke Boundford and Rio Ahmadi, plus a bullet header from Ryan Wollacott earned the Black and Greens victory in last night's hastily arranged pre season friendly against Tregaron Turfs, to set Matthew Bishop's men up nicely ahead of their Season Opener away to Cambrian and Clydach next Saturday. Town were extremely grateful to the Turfs for filling in at the last moment when Aber's intended opponents failed to raise a side, and it is fair to say they dominated the match with Aber fan Matty Toy in goal for Tregaron enjoying a very busy debut at Park Avenue. Following a number of attempts Town took the lead on 23 minutes when Ahmadi showed some lovely control to bring down the ball and set up Boundford for a tap in. Four minutes later Ahmadi doubled the lead, bearing in on goal down the right flank and flicking the ball expertly into the far corner for 2-0, and although Turfs went close with a header at the other end the scoreline remained unchanged until the break. A number of substitutions inevitably ensued after the break but the pattern of play remained, with Aber dominating the ball, but the Turfs threatening on the break on occasions. On 68 minutes Boundford bagged his second goal with a deft flicked header into the corner from Joe Phillips' cute left wing cross, and then young sub Richie Ricketts again made an impact late on. His corner from the left on 78 minutes set up Wollacott beautifully for a bullet header into the net for 4-0, and when the teenager picked out Wollacott again with three minutes left, the string centre half headed back across goal for Ahmadi to complete the scoring. There were gasps from the Tregaron faithful when Chris Wilkins' shot from the left squeaked agonisingly past the post, but the Black and Greens stood firm to maintain their clean sheet and in truth a 5-0 scoreline was probably a fair reflection of a dominant performance from the Black and Greens. Aber will be happy to have ended their pre season with some goals and a clean sheet, and with five players missing last night's game through injury the squad is looking strong ahead of the Big Kick Off next week. Tregaron meanwhile were a credit to themselves and the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth & District League and contributed to an entertaining evening of football at Park Avenue.
