Black and Green Manager Ian Hughes has been sharing his thoughts with atfc.org.uk ahead of Sunday's UEFA Europa League Semi Final Play Off, against Gap Connah's Quay at Park Avenue (ko 12.45pm). "The supporters have been fantastic this season, and we require one big push on Sunday. If you are debating whether to watch the game on TV, or come down to Park Avenue, I urge you to make your way down watch the game live. We need to create a 'Friday Night' atmosphere on Sunday, the Dias Stand needs to be rocking, and I would argue that this game is as big as the cup final last season. It was great to see 800+ fans at the Racecourse last season. We already knew we had qualified for Europe before that game., however this season we go into the Semi Final knowing that if we win we will be one game from Europe: this is the reason why I think Sunday's game is as big as last years Cup Final. The club are working hard and are distributing 200 free tickets for the game. If you don't get a free ticket it will cost you £5, the lowest in the Welsh Premier League. The players have worked hard to make sure we have home advantage on Sunday, and you can make sure this is a real advantage by your presence on Sunday. GAP Connah's Quay will bring plenty of vocal fans down with them on Sunday, but I'm sure the Dias Stand won't be out-sung. Thanks for your continued support, and I hope to see you all on Sunday." 162 Free tickets for the game have already been snapped up: the remaining 38 will be available for collection on a first come first served basis from Ruth's Kitchen tomorrow between 10am-1pm. UEFA Europa League Play Off Semi Final Sunday 10th May (ko 12.45pm) Aberystwyth Town v Gap Connah's Quay Europa League fever hits Aberystwyth this weekend as the Black and Greens prepare for their UEFA Europa League Semi Final Play Off against Gap Connah's Quay at Park Avenue on Sunday (ko 12.45pm), with tickets already going like hot cakes. The Play Offs are Aber's reward for an excellent fourth place finish to the regular 2014/15 season, and as the highest placed side, Town are guaranteed a home draw in the Final if they win on Sunday. A 2-1 win away to Port Talbot two weeks ago will have given Ian Hughes' men confidence going into the Play Offs, and having lost only 1 of 10 games this season against the other Play Off candidates that confidence is justified. Town trained well last night and have a fully fit squad to choose from on Sunday. Aber's 28 goal phenomenon Chris Venables gave everyone at the Club a massive boost this week by signing a new two year contract, and with Mark Jones (11), Geoff Kellaway (10), Craig Williams (6) and Luke Sherbon (5) adding another 32 goals to Town's total this season, the Black and Greens' attacking prowess is a sight to behold. Sunday's game however will prove to be a difficult ask as Connah's Quay have been on a good run, winning their last four games to turn a relegation threatened season around. Aber supporters will be all to aware of the attacking threat posed by Ryan Fraughan in particular, who debuted in the Welsh Prem in Alan Morgan's side of 2009/10. Sean Miller has also caught the eye for Alan Bickerstaff's side, who gained a 1-1 draw at Park Avenue earlier in the season, before losing 4-2 at home to Aber before Christmas. The game will be played to a finish on the day, with extra time and penalties if necessary, so the scene is set for a crucial game, and around 100 Free tickets will be available from Ruth Kitchen at the Club tomorrow between 9am-12pm. On the day Admission will cost a bargain £5 for Adults, £3 for Concessions and and £1 for Children, as the Black and Greens hope for a big walk up to cheer Ian Hughes' men towards a Play Off Final next weekend. It could be a historic week for Aber Town - don't miss the chance to play your part! Aberystwyth Town are delighted to announce that Chris Venables has signed a new two year contract with the Club. The news will come as a big boost in the run up to Aber Town's UEFA Europa League Play Off at home to Gap Connah's Quay on Sunday afternoon. Chris has become something of a phenomenon over the past eighteen months, and his goalscoring exploits in the Calendar year of 2014 earned worldwide acclaim. He was featured on uefa.com and the FIFA Weekly Magazine, not to mention a host of national television and radio outlets. More importantly to the Club he has made an enormous contribution to the Black and Greens' best season for years, resulting in a Top Four finish. Chairman Tony Bates said: "I am delighted that Chris has signed a new two year contract with the Club. Venners has obviously played a massive part in the team’s success this season and for the second year in succession will receive the WPL Golden Boot having so far scored 28 goals, ten more than his nearest rival." Manager Ian Hughes said: "It's fantastic news that Chris has committed to Aberystwyth Town, his winning mentality has become infectious around the squad and he feels, like I do, that we can kick on and get even better. Chris is the last off the training pitch and often stays out after training to practise different aspects of his game. The fact that he is the best player in the Welsh Premier League is no coincidence and his hard work is a great example to any aspiring young players at our club". Aberystwyth Town FC is offering 200 free tickets for Sunday's crucial UEFA Europa League Play Off Semi Final at home to Gap Connah's Quay (ko 12.45pm).
The Club is keen to encourage a huge crowd to attend Park Avenue on Sunday, and see the initiative as a thank you gesture to its many loyal supporters, who have ensured that Aber are the best supported WPL side south of the A55 in 2014/5. The tickets will be available for collection from Ruth's Kitchen, Park Avenue on Wednesday 6th May and Friday 8th May between 9am-12pm, in person only. The New Saints' Welsh Cup win this afernoon has clarified the Corbettsports WPL UEFA Europa League Play Off line ups definitively, meaning that the Black and Greens will host Gap Connah's Quay a week tomorrow in the Semi Finals, and Port Talbot or Newtown a week later if they defeat the Nomads.
The full play off fixture list is as follows: Semi Finals Saturday 9th May (ko 2.30pm) Port Talbot Town v Newtown Sunday 10th May (ko 12.45pm) Aberystwyth Town v Gap Connah's Quay Final Sunday 17th May (ko 12.45pm) To be hosted by the highest ranked side. |
