Aberystwyth Town FC were astonished to read reports online today of one of our registered players signing for another Dafabet Welsh Premier League Club.
For the avoidance of doubt, all our Players remain registered with the Club until the end of May, and no Players can be signed by any WPL Clubs until the transfer window re-opens in the second week of June. Any signings reported before the transfer window opens on June 9th constitute an offence under FAW Article 66.2 and Aberystwyth Town FC would be within its rights to report any offending parties to the FAW Disciplinary Department. Statement Ends Friday 13th May Leave Your Mark Event at Park Avenue Meirion Appleton 5 Tomi Morgan 6 The Aberystwyth Town Football Club Family enjoyed a remarkable night as the Club bid a fond farewell to the turf at Park Avenue last night with a spectacular match involving 9 Green Legends and 31 more popular ex Players and supporters. Meirion Appleton's side made a blistering start when Gavin Allen, Glyndwr Hughes and Kevin Morrison all rolled back the years and clinically found the net in front of the Dias Stand. However when Paul Coyne set up Andy Evans he reduced the deficit, and then Man of the Match Iwan Roberts rounded Tony Brauer to bring the scoreline back to 3-2 at half time. Tomi Morgan's side continued a remarkable turnaround after the break with Huw Bates equalising from close range, before Donald Kane smashed home a classy long volley to make the score 4-3. Iwan Roberts notched two more goals, one set up by a crowdpleasing, swashbuckling 70 yard run by keeper Richard Morgan, but back came Meirion's boys with two more goals, the second a penalty brilliantly dispatched by Gavin Allen. Despite a late onslaught Tomi's boys held on and both sides left the field to a rapturous applause. It is clear from the positive feedback the Club has received in response to Leave Your Mark that there is a big appetite for Events which bring the Aberystwyth Town FC Family Past and Present together, and we will attempt to create further opportunities for this to happen as we enter the 3G era at Aberystwyth Town FC. We would like to sincerely thank everyone involved in last night's game and hope to see you all again soon back at Park Avenue. Aberystwyth Town FC will be delighted to donate 50% of last night's gate receipts, a total of £216 to local Charity Hospice at Home Aberystwyth Volunteers. Aberystwyth Town FC are pleased to confirm the recruitment of Wayne Jones to their Management Team. Wayne, aged 36, joins the club from Haverfordwest County where he has been carrying out the role of First Team Manager for the past three years. In this role he inspired the Club to promotion from the Welsh League into the Welsh Premier League last May and he oversaw the development of a number of talented young players into impressive WPL prospects. Previously manager at Newcastle Emlyn before joining the coaching staff at the Bridge Meadow, Wayne worked as assistant manager with Derek Brazil and Micky Ellis before being appointed manager in May 2013. Prior to his Managerial Career Carmarthen based Wayne had an impressive Career as a WPL Player, making 295 appearances and scoring 11 goals between 1996 and 2008 for both Haverfordwest and Carmarthen as a combative left back. First Choice keeper at Aber between 2005-7, he also played in the Welsh Premier League for Carmarthen Town, Llanelli, Rhayader and Porthmadog, not to mention Bridgend Town, Pontypridd Town and Roath Park Rangers after moving to South Wales. We will publish a full list of the Leave Your Mark participants in a Match Preview on atfc.org.uk tomorrow. With Aber Town's Leave Your Mark Event only three days away, the Club can confirm the participation of two further Green Legends, in the shape of Mark Devereux and Andy Evans. Scottish-born "Dev" made 268 appearances for Aber between 1982 and 1997, coming to prominence during Aber's early forays into the Welsh "Abacus" League from 1987 onwards. Part of the 1988 Welsh Intermediate Cup winning side, Mark was a combative defender, and the archetypal "hundred percenter." Somewhat of an unsung hero in a crucial period in the Club's development into a team which could compete at a National Level, Mark is fondly remembered for his winning goal in a Welsh Cup Fourth Round tie at Caernarfon in 1991 which completed a clean sweep of "rebel clubs", following earlier wins at Newtown and Barry. Andy played 190 full team games for Aber between 1996 and 2009, scoring 52 goals. A Centre forward by trade and Wales Under 21 International he started with Cardiff City, Merthyr Tydfil and Ebbw Vale before joining Aber for his first spell in 1996, and after three goals in seven appearances earned himself a £60,000 move to Barnsley. He went on to play for a number of sides including Osset Town, Frickley Athletic, Chester City, and Mansfield Town before rejoining Aber in 2006/07. He came off the bench in the 2006/07 season's opener against Llanelli in his first game back with the club and was involved in the Welsh Cup run to the 2009 final. Andy is now an invaluable member of the Club's Academy as a Coach, which cements his place as a Green Legend. Kick off on Friday night is at 7.30pm. It promises to be quite an evening and admission will cost a mere £2, half of which will be donated to the Club's chosen charity Hospice at Home Aberystwyth Volunteers. |
