Tuesday 4th October (kick off 7.45pm)
Haverfordwest County v Aberystwyth Town
Certain Cup draws are utterly inevitable. Like the changing of the seasons, death and taxes and the inexorable march of time, it was written in the stars that Haverfordwest County would host Aberystwyth Town in this season's Nathaniel MG Cup - even before the draw was split into geographic regions, making the draw a 100% certainty.
Last year's Bluebirds Manager moved North to Park Avenue in the summer taking Luke Borrelli, Greg Walters, Sam Rodon and Ricky Watts with him, while County are managed by onetime Black and Green Chris O'Sullivan, with ex Aber midfielder Rhydian Davies from Capel Bangor starring in Midfield. The two sides met at the same stage of the Competition last year at the same venue and the homesters won 4-1 on a poor night for the Black and Greens.
Aber will be glad of a change of scene after a tough run of ten Dafabet WPL fixtures away from home, sandwiched around a 2-1 Nathaniel MG Cup victory at local rivals Penrhynoch's Cae Baker at the start of September. Manager Matthew Bishop has made it clear that the Nathaniel MG Cup is a Competition he wishes to do well in, and with Aber already in the last sixteen, three more wins would see the Black and Greens into a first ever League Cup Final in January. Luke Sherbon and Geoff Kellaway are sidelined with injury, and Kurtis March limped off at half time during Saturday's defeat to TNS, but a place in the Quarter Finals would be a big boost to the side before they resume League duties in eleven days time when the 3G Facility opens on October 14th.
Haverfordwest are re-adjusting to life in the Welsh League and despite a mixed start to the season a 6-2 home victory over Port Talbot Town in the First Round of the Cup showed that they can be a forced to be reckoned with on their day.
Kick off at the Conygar Bridge Meadow tomorrow night is at 7.45pm and a local derby feel should bring an exciting atmosphere to County's famous ground. See you there!
