Haverfordwest U19s 0 Aberystwyth U19s 3
Aberystwyth U19’s continued their fine start to the season with an excellent 3-0 victory away to Haverfordwest, writes Assistant Manager Iwan Roberts.
The first half was a tight affair with both teams knocking on the door trying to get a break through, Aber did however have the best of the chances, Tom Evans starting in a more attacking role proved to be a real thorn in the Haverfordwest defence as his relentless desire to keep running created numerous problems all afternoon.
The second half saw the Aber midfield of Matthew Jones, Jack Rimmer and Niall Coleridge get a firm hold of the game, and their dominance in a physical game paid off as Jack Rimmer coolly slotted home when his was put one on one with the keeper. Aber’s superior fitness really did start to show in the last quarter when Matthew Jones increased the lead with a lovely turn on the right hand side and delivered a lovely cross come shot which caught out the home keeper, Jones completed his man of the match performance with a driving run into the Haverfordwest box and drilled a powerful left foot shot into the bottom hand corner of the net.
Aber boss Bari Morgan was pleased with the result and the performance “the boys again as a group have put in an excellent performance, plus a first clean sheet was an added bonus. We have had some very good individual performances, but what impressed me most was how we are performing as a team and a squad. There are still things to improve on and we mustn’t get carried away as the next two games will be a real test for us, but we are full of confidence and belief”.
Aber have three homes games to come, starting with reigning champions Cambrian & Clydach on Sunday 17th followed by Swansea on 24th and then the First Round of the Welsh Cup against Ffostrasol on October 1st.
