The Black and Greens got a busy weekend off to a great start with victory against Cascade YC thanks to a fantastic first half performance and goals from Tania Wylde (2) and Ffiona Evans (2), writes Steven Brookes.
Aber got off to the perfect start, Tania Wylde confidently converting a penalty after just four minutes. Wylde then doubled Aber's lead four minutes later. Ffiona Evans effort was saved by the keeper but the midfielder reacted quickest to score her second of the game. 21 minutes in and the home side were three up, when Club Captain Ffiona Evans was put through down the left and poked it past the keeper. A couple of minutes later it was Evans's turn to score a second. Caroline Cooper played a fantastic ball over the top of the defence towards the wide midfielder was able to put the ball in the back of the net with a similar finish to her first goal. Aber had chances in the first half to increase their lead, Naomi Evans with a miskick inside the box whilst Kelly Thomas saw her header stopped on the line late in the half.
The away side were much improved in the second half but Aber were still creating chances. Naomi Evans came close again with a left footed effort just wide. With 68 minutes on the watch Cascade got the goal their second half performance arguably deserved when a ball across the box was turned in by Charlotte Palmer from just a couple of yards out. The away side scored another with nine minutes remaining when Amy Lewis converted from the penalty spot with a powerful shot down the middle of the goal. Cascade were now believing they could complete an incredible comeback but Aber nearly increased their lead. Hannah Pusey was put through on goal but the goalkeeper was able to get a hand to the forward's shot.
No more goals were scored and Aber got their weekend off to a perfect start.
