JD Welsh Premier League Friday 8th March (7:45 pm Kick Off) Aberystwyth Town v Carmarthen Town Aberystwyth Town continue their hunt for a Europa League Play Off spot on Friday evening as they welcome Carmarthen Town to Park Avenue in the JD Welsh Premier League. The Seasiders secured a massive victory in their last league outing, beating play off rivals Cardiff Met 2-0, thanks to a brace from Marc Williams, and they'll be keen to secure another 3 points to close in on a seventh placed finish come the end of the season. Assistant Manager Gavin Allen was full of praise for his players after Town's victory against the Archers a fortnight ago, commenting; "That's the first clean sheet we've kept since early November so that was important, and I thought our patterns of play were excellent and we were deserved winners". He went on to add; "We knew we had to win the game, losing would have left us with too many points to make up, and now we're in there with a fighting chance of getting the seventh placed finish". Aber's new look back line certainly made a big difference to the Black and Greens' defensive stability a fortnight ago, and they will be hopeful they can show similar resilience in keeping the Old Gold out on Friday evening. Town also have a man in form at the other end, with Marc Williams already having netted 3 times in his first four league games for the Seasiders. It appears after a dip in form over the festive period, Town have found the correct recipe for success once more as they enter a vital part of the season - having picked up 7 points from their last four league games. Friday's visitors Carmarthen Town have endured some ups and downs in recent weeks - having won 3 and lost 3 out of their last six games in all competitions. The Old Gold most recently lost 1-0 to Cefn Druids at Richmond Park, but remain well clear of safety, currently lying 10th in the JD Welsh Premier League table. The previous two fixtures between the sides have finished evenly this season, with Aber coming back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw at Richmond Park, before playing out a 1-1 draw at Park Avenue during Phase 1 of the season. As Aber continue to chase their European dream, come on down and see if they can secure another positive result on Friday evening. Kick off at Park Avenue is at 7:45 pm, and admission costs £8 adults, £5 concessions and £2 for u16's. Please note we will be offering FREE ENTRY to all Aberystwyth University Students on Friday evening. Additionally, we are delighted to confirm that the sponsored walkers raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and in memory of club legend David 'Dias' Williams will complete their first day's walk on Friday by attending our fixture against Carmarthen. Aberystwyth Town FC congratulates First Team Midfielder Mattie Jones (top, left) on his selection for the Wales C Squad which will face England at Salford City later in the month. The news was announced this lunchtime and is a reward for a season of huge effort, commitment and intensity from Mattie, which has helped to keep Aber in contention for a UEFA Europa Play Off place with six WPL matches remaining. A student at Aberystwyth University, Mattie is the first recipient of the a Scholarship Agreement between Aberystwyth Town FC and Aberystwyth University, whom he also represents in the BUCS Leagues. The Club also congratulations Academy Product Emlyn Lewis, now starring for Cardiff Met FC, who also makes the Semi Pro Squad, as does Chris Venables who has enjoyed two separate spells in Black and Green. Manager Mark Jones has selected a squad of 21 players from the JD Welsh Premier League, which includes a blend of experience and youth. The squad was announced via a special video recorded by fans from around Wales revealing the players from their respective clubs. Each video clip was recorded at a significant location in the community surrounding their football club. Barry Town United are the club with the highest representation in the squad, with five of their players earning call ups. Defender Chris Hugh has impressed with his performances at left-back for the Linnets this season and is one of nine players from last year’s squad to be selected again this year. Kayne McLaggon and Jordan Cotterill are two others earning repeat selections, while Robbie Patten and Clayton Green’s respective performances in the centre of the Barry midfield sees them both earn call ups for the first time. Cardiff Met pair, Adam Roscrow and Eliot Evans, have both earned a second successive call up to the squad thanks to their good form of late, and are joined this year by team-mates Emlyn Lewis and Joel Edwards. Bala Town have three players called into the side. Ashley Morris and Chris Venables are a returning pair from last season, while Henry Jones, currently leading the League in assists, completes the Maes Tegid contingent. Caernarfon Town have been excellent on their first season back in the top flight, guaranteeing a top half finish and a spot in the end of season European Playoffs. Goalkeeper Alex Ramsey and winger Danny Brookwell are the two players from the Cofis called into the side. Seven further JDWPL sides have one player each called into the squad. Two of the seven, Aeron Edwards of The New Saints and Kai Edwards of Llandudno, played in last year’s 3-2 defeat to England at Jenner Park, Barry. Of the remaining five, two are defenders in the form of Newtown’s Callum Roberts, and Cefn Druids centre-back Nathan Peate. Youngsters Matthew Jones and Jake Phillips of Aberystwyth Town and Connah’s Quay Nomads respectively, are called up to bolster the midfield options, whilst Liam Thomas’ 17 goals so far this season for Carmarthen Town see the Old Gold forward earn his call up. Supporters can pay on the turnstiles at the stadium on the night of the game. Tickets cost £10 for adults, £5 for concessions (U16 and over 60) with U5s going free. The game will also be streamed live on the Sgorio Facebook page, and on the English FA’s website.
