Saturday 18th July (ko 2.30pm) Pre Season Friendly Llandyrnog United v Aberystwyth Town Atfc.org.uk can confirm that the Black and Greens will travel to Ruthin on Saturday for a hastily arranged pre-season friendly against Llandyrnog United of the Welsh Alliance Division One. Barmouth & Dyffryn United pulled out of Saturday's planned friendly earlier this week, so the Black and Greens are grateful to Llandyrnog for filling the gap at short notice. We understand the match will take place at the home of Ruthin Rovers FC, on the Llanfwrog Playing Fields, which are on the left as you approach Ruthin on the A494 from Corwen, just before the junction with the B5105. The postcode is given as LL15 1LE. Aberystwyth Town FC are delighted to confirm that local Insurance Brokers Rees Astley have renewed their Sponsorship with the Club for next season. Rees Astley have been involved with local football for decades, and currently have a Pitchside Board and a half page Advertisement in the Matchday Programme. Rees Astley prides itself on providing expert, professional advice on every type of insurance and financial planning need, whether business or personal, expressed in the plainest terms - in English or Welsh. The sponsorship deal was confirmed this week by Branch Manager Nigel Kennedy, who is also well known in Welsh Football Circles as a Board Member of Newtown FC. Their office at 29 North Parade, Aberystwyth would be pleased to hear from you. Rees Astley can also be contacted by phone on 01970 624261, or by email to [email protected]. For more information visit http://www.reesastley.co.uk/index.html Unfortunately Barmouth & Dyffryn FC informed Aberystwyth Town on Sunday that they are unable to host next Saturday's pre season friendly, and were also unable to accept the Club's offer of playing the game at a neutral venue.
Aberystwyth Town FC are therefore looking for an opponent able to host a friendly this Saturday afternoon. Interested parties can contact the Club via Thomas Crockett on [email protected] or by phone on 07717 470301. One Year Ago to the day Aberystwyth Town hosted one of the biggest games in our history, a first ever UEFA Europa League tie at home to Derry City. The match attracted a virtual sell out crowd of 1026, including 180 visiting supporters from Derry, and although the result, alas, was a disappointing one, the Club did itself proud in staging a match of that magnitude. To commemorate the Anniversary we have posted Club Photographer Chris Howells' album of photos of the day onto our Green Army Facebook page, here: https://www.facebook.com/atfcgreenarmy. Ian Hughes and his First Team Squad return to training tomorrow, after a well deserved seven week break from Football. On the eve of the reunion Hughsey shared his thoughts with atfc.org.uk: "We as a squad can’t wait to get started again! The last few weeks have felt like months, after losing the Europa League Play Off Final in May. I am looking forward to welcoming the players in over the next few days and as we look forward to the season ahead. Sustainability has been key since I arrived at the club and I am happy to report that we have kept the nucleus of the squad that has served us so well over the last couple of seasons, and every player I wanted to keep has decided to stay, which is a big plus for us. We have also added Lee Surman, Rhys Griffiths and Darren Thomas to the Squad. It goes without saying that we have gone for experienced players with a winning mentally to hopefully take us to the next level. Much of the squad have played with Lee and Rhys in the past, so I don’t see any need for a "bedding in" period, and I expect the team to hit the ground running next season. Of course much of how we get on in the first few games will depend on the next six weeks and if the Players' attitude and work rate is what it has been in the last couple of pre seasons, I see no reason why we can’t have another good start to the season. We will have a look and tweak a few things over the first few games of pre-season, with our focus solely on the game at Llandudno on the 22nd of August." Town's Pre Season Friendly list is more or less completed, and the Black and Greens start their Friendlies at Barmouth two weeks tomorrow. The full list of friendlies is as as follows: Saturday 18th July (ko 2.30pm) Barmouth & Dyffryn (away) Saturday 25th July (ko 2.30pm) Llangefni Town (home) Saturday 1st August (ko 2.30pm) Caersws (away) Saturday 8th August (ko 2.30pm) Porthmadog (away) Friday 14th August (ko 7.30pm) Haverfordwest County (away) |
