Saturday 15th July
Aberystwyth Town 3 Llanelli 4
Visitors Llanelli notched two injury time goals to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat at Park Avenue this afternoon, in Aberystwyth Town's first Pre Sesaon Friendly of 2017/8, as strikes from Lee Trundle (2), an own goal from Ryan Wollacott and James Loveridge outscored Town's tally from Malcolm Melvin, Cledan Davies and Jonny Spittle.
Aber started the game extremely well and dominated proceedings with Geoff Kellaway bringing a save out of Craig Morris, only for the visitors to score on their first attack from a predictable source, as Trundle's 12th minute free kick found the top corner. Aber equalised within ten minutes as Morris punched Kellaway's cross to Melvin, who volleyed home smartly from the edge of the box; but four minutes later a defensive mix up alowed Jordan Davies to set Trundle up for a lobbed second. Back came Aber and when Jon Owen was fouled in the box by Lee Bevan, Cledan Davies stepped up to equlise again with a 28th minute penalty. Mullock denied Richard Lewis with a smart stop and the half ended all square at 2-2.
Four half time substitutions for Aber and three for Llanelli disrupted the flow of the game which became a scrappy affair until Cledan Davies' corner was headed home by Spittle to put the Black and Greens in the lead for the first time with 21 minutes to go, and Melvin was so close to doubling the lead with an audacious lob from halfway which Morris just managed to tip wide. With the game fizzing out Aber made five late substitutions and the visitors were able to capitalise as Trundle's 90th minute corner was headed against the post by Lee Bevan, only to deflect in off the back of Wollacott's head, before James Loveridge snaffled up a 93rd minute winner with a low drive into the corner.
Manager Neville Powell watched the game from the gantry and will be hoping for a better defensive performance in next Saturday's friendly, at home to Haverfordwest County (ko 2.30pm).
