Dafabet Welsh Premier League Saturday 3rd October (ko 2.30pm) Aberystwyth Town v Gap Connah’s Quay Ian Hughes’ Black and Greens look to take advantage of real positive momentum in their Dafabet WPL Season as they welcome Gap Connah’s Quay to Park Avenue on Saturday afternoon. Seven points collected from the last nine on offer have revitalised Aber Town’s quest for a Top Six berth come January, and that form is a welcome boost ahead of a run of games against contenders for the elite section of the WPL. Saturday’s visitors, under the leadership of Alan Bickerstaff, recruited well in the summer, adding to an already promising squad, and certainly fall into that category. Aber’s upturn in form has coincided with Manager Ian Hughes having a full squad to choose from, and he will hope for no injury worries prior to Saturday’s game. Town should have no problems going forward, with Jamie Reed on 5 goals from 6 appearances, and Chris Venables on 4 from 7; however it is an improvement at the back which has been the foundation of Aber’s recent success, and stout defensive performances against Carmarthen and Bala, and in the second half at Bangor, have shown Aber the way forward. Given their high expectations Connah’s Quay may be slightly disappointed by a return of nine points from seven games, but they have a good record at Park Avenue and took Aber all the way the last time the Clubs met at Park Avenue, in May’s UEFA Europa League Play Off Semi Final, before two late goals earned Town a dramatic 3-2 victory. The Clubhouse will be open from 1pm, and will be offering selected beers and lagers for £2.50 right up until Full Time. The Club Shop is now fully stocked with Replica Home Shirts, which will be on sale on the day. One way or another, all of Aberystwyth Town’s games so far this season have offered unmissable entertainment and amazing value for money. The stage is set for another pulsating Dafabet WPL encounter on Saturday afternoon. Kick Off is at 2.30pm – and Admission will cost £6 for Adults, £4 for Students and £1 for Children. Honour us with your presence! On Friday 2nd October St Michael’s Church in Aberystwyth are hosting ex-Premier league star Linvoy Primus for the weekend. He will speak at several events during which he will share a bit about what is was like playing professional football as a Christian and the difference that Christianity makes in his life. St Michael’s is the church building nestled between the Old College and the Castle ruins, which recently had a weeklong celebration for the 125th Anniversary of the Church building. The weekend will give a great opportunity to have an insight into what it can be like in the high-pressured world of professional sport. What difference can God make today in a culture that often rejects the notion of there be being ‘something more’. Everyone is welcome to all the events. Firstly, on Friday 2nd October at 7pm in the Academy there will be free chips and a free Sports Quiz during which Linvoy will speak. On Saturday Morning at 10am Lads and Dads are welcome to the Castle Rooms (Seaview Place) for breakfast and a chance to hear Linvoy’s story. Then in the evening at 7pm in St Mike’s church itself, there will be a men’s curry evening again open to all. He will also be speaking at St Mike’s weekly evening service at 6pm. St Mike's invites you to come along to any or all of the events to explore more about the Christian faith and the difference it makes for Linvoy. |
