It may not have skipped your notice that Wales' National Team kicks off its Euro 2016 Finals Campaign on Saturday, with a crucial tie against Slovakia in Bordeaux. Further matches will follow against England in Lens (Thursday 16th June), and Russia in Toulouse (Monday 22nd June).
The Welsh Team will be supported by a strong contingent of supporters from Aberystwyth Town FC and the surrounding area, and the Club would like to send the Welsh Team its sincere Best Wishes ahead of a momentous period. The whole of Welsh domestic football will benefit from a feelgood factor surrounding any success the team has, and they know their success will be celebrated as wildly in Ceredigion as it is in France! Pob lwc i Chris, Osian a'r bois oddi wrtho ni gyd - best luck to Chris, Osian and the boys from us all at Park Avenue. Aberystwyth Town FC were delighted to learn that they have been picked out of the hat next to local friends and rivals Penrhyncoch in the Word Cup First Round draw, which was made at the Dafabet WPL AGM last Saturday. Newly promoted Penrhyncoch participate in the Cup as wildcard entrants, and the tie, to be played at Cae Baker, was probably the one both clubs would have chosen for a huge occasion, guaranteed to draw a very large crowd. The links between the two clubs are endless. Black and Green legends Gari Lewis, Aneurin Thomas and Bari Morgan form Penrhyn's Management Team, while new Aber Manager Matthew Bishop lives in Penrhyncoch, as does defender Sion James. The game will be played the evening of Tuesday or Wednesday the 6th or 7th September, with the exact date and time to be confirmed. A match not to miss! On Wednesday 25th May Penrhyncoch Football Club played host to a football evening with ex Welsh Internationals Malcolm Allen and Owain Tudur Jones alongside S4C Presenter Dylan Ebenezer as part of S4C's Promotional Campaign of live coverage of all Wales group games being live on the channel.
With the event being co-hosted between Penrhyncoch and Aberystwyth Town Football clubs, children between the ages of 4-14 were treated to coaching sessions from members of the coaching staff at Aberystwyth Town Academy alongside both Owain Tudur-Jones and Malcolm Allen on the pitch at Cae Baker, before Ash Randell, 18x World Record Holder and freestyle footballer showed off his skills with the children invited to try and out-skill him. After that it was into the club where Dylan Ebenezer interviewed both Malcolm Allen and Owain Tudur-Jones about the hopes of a nation in France, with new Aberystwyth Town Manager Matthew Bishop there to give his first live interview just 24 hours after being confirmed as the club's new manager, before a football quiz and raffle raising money for Street Football Wales. Our thanks go to S4C for holding the event at Penrhyncoch FC. Club Marketing Officer Martin Smith reveals that Aberystwyth Town’s online media platforms have received an incredible four million online views during 2015/6. After another highly eventful season of trials and tribulations, a whole year has now passed since Aberystwyth Town's new look website was launched. Club Marketing Officer Martin Smith, who designed the new website has been carrying out some online research via Google Analytics and now reveals some quite staggering viewing figures for the year for the website and the Club's social media platforms. Aberystwyth Town FC Online Stats June 2015-May 2016 Views Visitors Website 448,812 104,151 Twitter 2,581,000 177,806 Facebook 1,118,521 381,992 Total 4,148,333 663,949 A ‘view’ represents the number of times a story or article is looked at, and a ‘visit’ represents a period of time spent within the online platform. Users may of course make more than one visit during a period of time. Club Marketing Director Thomas Crockett said: “Online Interest in Aberystwyth Town FC and the Dafabet Welsh Premier League, both within Wales and overseas has never been so high, and over 4,000,000 views in one year for just one Club is quite a staggering statistic. It is clear that supporters like to experience their football fix not just in person, but also online, and this is a desire we will hopefully continue to satisfy, using ever more platforms and outlets. It is notable that in the absence of any meaningful coverage from some national media agencies the WPL and its Clubs have moved to create their own media output, and we hope that these stats will give some Sports Editors serious food for thought when they are considering which sports stories to cover. They may be missing a trick.” The website, atfc.org.uk represents the heart of Aber’s Media Presence, driving content for the other media platforms and has a lively following, sometimes receiving as many as 2,000 visits and 3,000 views per day. The most popular news article to hit onto our website was the breaking news back at the start of March when confirmation of our new soon to be state of the art 3G artificial pitch was announced. This confirmation came after a long three year process from start to finish, with hard work from all involved and especially from club chairman Tony Bates. Our second most popular news article was the fantastic news that Aber’s home grown Jack Rimmer had been selected for the Wales Under 18 Academy squad to play international matches against the Republic of Ireland. This came after Jack had broken into the Aber first team reckoning and scored his first career goal against Haverfordwest County. Into the number three slot was our tweet urging Wales national team manager Chris Coleman to give Tom Bradshaw his national team debut against Ukraine. We don’t know if Coleman saw our tweet, but Bradshaw was rewarded for his excellent club form at League One Walsall, with his national team debut appearance in the final 17 minutes. This achievement is something that we as a club are ever so proud of Tom for achieving. Aberystwyth Town FC has a team of Media Volunteers, without whom none of this would be possible. In addition to Martin Smith, Tom Bates, Matthew Wallace, Chris Hefferan, Tomos Ings, Owain Evans and Jed Woodcock have all contributed to this success and the Club would like to thank them publicly for their support and dedication. Anyone interested in joining the Marketing Team as a Volunteer can contact Club Marketing Director Thomas Crockett by email at [email protected].
