Friday 18th September Carmarthen Town 0 Aberystwyth Town 3 A superb defensive performance allied to some clinical second half finishing earned Aberystwyth Town a brilliant win at Richmond Park this evening, catapulting the Black and Greens back into the Top Six and replenishing confidence at Park Avenue ahead of a busy Autumn period for Ian Hughes' men. Although the margin of victory suggest a comfortable win, Aber's win was built on a solidity at the back which reduced Carmarthen to a handful of meaningful opportunities. Town Captain Stuart Jones headed over from an early corner, before Jamie Reed lobbed over audaciously from distance. Geoff Kellaway, picked out by Ross Stephens, sent a first time volley wide, before Reed drew a comfortable save from Lee Idzi. For the homesters Luke Cummings drew a good save from Mike Lewis with a header, and Lewis was again awake minutes later to save a deflected clearance in two rare attempts on goal the home side mustered. Antonio Corbisiero played in Chris Venables who shot just over from close range, and then Liam Lewis headed over for a goalless tie at the break. Aber's faultless back four of Corbisiero, Jones, Lee Surman and Craig Williams, with their covering midfielders Luke Sherbon and Stephens snuffed out any threat to the visitors' goal in the opening period of the second half, allowing the front four to cause real problems at the other end. Venables and Reed both went close but then with 19 minutes to go Kellaway, who had threatened all night, burst down the right wing before laying the ball back for Reed to score from the edge of the box, possibly with the aid of a slight deflection, to put Aber one up, deservedly. The challenge for Town now was to keep a clean sheet and this they did by attacking remorselessly: however the second goal took 86 minutes to arrive. The faultless Jamie Reed, once again shedding the autograph hunter- like attentions of Dwaine Bailey, found space down the right to play in the effervescent Darren Thomas, and the Cofi King won the game from ten yards. Reed back heeled Cledan Davies into space, and he went within inches of a third, before Craig Williams capped a Man of the Match performance at left back by nutmegging Sasha Walters before sending in a goal bound right footed volley which was touched in, inevitably by Venables in the 93rd minute to cap a 3-0 win and a great evening for anyone who holds the Black and Greens close to their heart. This performance gives Aber a strong foundation on which to built a Top Six push in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League this Autumn, starting on Tuesday evening at home to Bala Town (ko 7.45pm). A large contingent of Freshers are expected at Park Avenue to create a superb atmosphere on the night. Don't hear about it from your friends - see you there on Tuesday! Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Friday 18th September (ko 7.45pm) Carmarthen Town v Aberystwyth Town Aberystwyth Town look to bounce back from a disappointing couple of results in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League when they travel to Richmond Park on Friday evening to face local rivals Carmarthen Town. Consecutive defeats away to Port Talbot, and then last week at home to Airbus have seen the Black and Greens slip down the table, so there is no better place to mount a comeback than at their neighbours ground, where Aber won 3-1 last season on Boxing Day, before beating the Old Gold at home a week later by 5 goals to 3 to clinch a Top Six spot. If Aber are to repeat the trick and make the Top Six again this time round results need to improve, and Manager Ian Hughes was at least encouraged by Town's performance last week in defeat. A couple of contentious decisions went against the Black and Greens that day, having a major impact on the outcome of the game, and let it not be forgot that Aber performed superbly eight days ago to steamroller Goytre United in the Word Cup. Rhys Griffiths is getting ever closer to full fitness and if he is available in two days time Hughes will have a full squad to choose from for the first time this season. Carmarthen, after a shaky start of their own, have shown Aber the way by rallying strongly, and their 2-1 win at Bangor last week took the Richmond Park Men to fifth in the table, so another difficult obstacle awaits the Black and Greens. This game always attracts a sizeable contingent of travelling supporters from Ceredigion, and Your Coach leaves Park Avenue at 4.45pm on Friday for a 7.45pm kick off. It will cost you no more than £10. Bring the Noise and Support the Boys! Picture Perfect

Saturday 12th September Aberystwyth Town 1 Airbus UK Broughton 2 With a draw looking the likeliest and deserved outcome, Chris Budrys scored a late winner at Park Avenue to snatch a victory for Airbus this afternoon, in a scrappy game in which Aber, despite scoring through Chris Venables and having Darren Thomas' goal contentiously disallowed, never quite hit the heights of last Tuesday. On a pleasant sunny afternoon the game started rather scrappily, with flowing football at a premium - yet the chances did come. Thomas and Geoff Kellaway put in good crosses and Lee Surman headed just wide from the latter. At the other end Lee Owens pinged a shot wide, and James Murphy saw his effort blocked. Then in the 22nd minute Murphy pounced on as loose ball in the box to find the bottom corner and give the visitors the lead. Tony Gray was then denied in a good position, but back came Aber and when Jamie Reed sent a superb crossfield ball to Kellaway out on the right, he powered into the box and was felled by Matty McGinn. Chris Venables easily equalised from the penalty spot on 27 minutes. Another penalty was awardede to Airbus seven minutes for an inocuous handball, but home keeper Mike Lewis dived to his left and superbly turned Tom Field's spot kick round the corner. The dangerous Ryan Wade then went close twice more, and in injury time Thomas played Reed into a promising position but he drew a quality diving save from visiting keeper Keighan Jones, and a niggly half ended all square. Aber started the second half like a train, and to home eyes, should have earned a lead on 47 minutes when Antonio Corbisiero's beautifully flighted right wing cross was headed home by the onrushing Thomas, only to be disallowed. Town were angered by the decision, and tried to push on, but Airbus gained a foothold after their let off and went on to dominate territorially for a period, though Stuart Jones and Surman at the back were commanding as ever. Field sent a free kick just over the bar, as did Chris Venables at the other end, Budrys was called offside before putting the ball in the net, and Venables headed wide from another expert cross from Corbisiero, but the game appeared to be drifting towards a draw when Wade sent a ball in which was sent back across the box, and Budrys pounced for an 82nd minute winner. Reed and Thomas both had shots blocked as Aber pushed for an equaliser, but it was not to be and the visitors defence held firm. The Black and Greens will be looking to make amends for a rather harsh defeat when they visit Carmarthen next Friday evening for a 7.45pm kick off. The Coach will leave Park Avenue at 4.45pm. Saturday 12th September (ko 2.30pm) Dafabet Welsh Premier League Aberystwyth Town v Airbus UK Broughton Dafabet Welsh Premier League games come thick and fast at this time of year and everyone at Park Avenue is looking forward to Aberystwyth Town's next game, at home to Airbus UK Broughton on Saturday afternoon (ko 2.30pm). The reason for the positive vibe in large part comes from Aber's home form to date in 2015/6, which has seen them score eight goals in two games with exciting displays of attacking football, leaving home supporters thrilled. A 5-1 Word Cup win at home to Goytre United on Tuesday night was a fine preparation for Saturday's test, thanks to goals from Chris Venables, Darren Thomas, Geoff Kellaway, Cledan Davies and Craig Williams, and with Jamie Reed definitely returning to Saturday's squad, and Rhys Griffiths close to a return, the attacking prowess available to Manager Ian Hughes must be the envy of most other WPL Managers. Airbus for their part have had an uncharacteristically inconsistent start to 2015/6, and with Manager Andy Preece banned for nine games, results haven't all gone their way. After hammering Carmarthen on the first day of the season the Wingmakers lost to Bala Town, and then capitulated 4-1 at home to Bangor last weekend. They did then recover to beat Cefn Druids 2-0 in Tuesday night's Word Cup clash, and as the Broughton side are one of Aber's major rivals for a European place next season, this match may provide an early indication of where both sides are as 2015/6 really gets going. Although Aber and Airbus are currently on 3 points after 3 games, both know that a win on Saturday could take them as high as third, so an intriguing scene is set. With an average of five goals per game at Park Avenue so far this season, no one leaves us bored, and admission on Saturday will cost £6 for Adults, £4 Concessions and £1 for Children. Town's Matchday Programme The Seasider will again be on sale for £2 and Kick off at Park Avenue will be at 2.30pm. See you there! Word Cup Second Round Tuesday 29th September (ko 7.30pm) Haverfordwest County v Aberystwyth Town Aberystwyth Town's reward for their 5-1 win over Goytre United in the Word Cup First Round is a last sixteen Second Round tie away to Haverfordwest County, to be played on Tuesday 29th September, with a 7.30pm kick off. The draw was conducted at the FAW Offices in Cardiff by the Head of Competitions, Andrew Howard. He was assisted by Welsh international Nadia Lawrence and two times Word Cup winner with Carmarthen Town Craig Hughes.
