Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Saturday 12th September Aberystwyth Town 1 Airbus UK Broughton 2 With a draw looking the likeliest and deserved outcome, Chris Budrys scored a late winner at Park Avenue to snatch a victory for Airbus this afternoon, in a scrappy game in which Aber, despite scoring through Chris Venables and having Darren Thomas' goal contentiously disallowed, never quite hit the heights of last Tuesday. On a pleasant sunny afternoon the game started rather scrappily, with flowing football at a premium - yet the chances did come. Thomas and Geoff Kellaway put in good crosses and Lee Surman headed just wide from the latter. At the other end Lee Owens pinged a shot wide, and James Murphy saw his effort blocked. Then in the 22nd minute Murphy pounced on as loose ball in the box to find the bottom corner and give the visitors the lead. Tony Gray was then denied in a good position, but back came Aber and when Jamie Reed sent a superb crossfield ball to Kellaway out on the right, he powered into the box and was felled by Matty McGinn. Chris Venables easily equalised from the penalty spot on 27 minutes. Another penalty was awardede to Airbus seven minutes for an inocuous handball, but home keeper Mike Lewis dived to his left and superbly turned Tom Field's spot kick round the corner. The dangerous Ryan Wade then went close twice more, and in injury time Thomas played Reed into a promising position but he drew a quality diving save from visiting keeper Keighan Jones, and a niggly half ended all square. Aber started the second half like a train, and to home eyes, should have earned a lead on 47 minutes when Antonio Corbisiero's beautifully flighted right wing cross was headed home by the onrushing Thomas, only to be disallowed. Town were angered by the decision, and tried to push on, but Airbus gained a foothold after their let off and went on to dominate territorially for a period, though Stuart Jones and Surman at the back were commanding as ever. Field sent a free kick just over the bar, as did Chris Venables at the other end, Budrys was called offside before putting the ball in the net, and Venables headed wide from another expert cross from Corbisiero, but the game appeared to be drifting towards a draw when Wade sent a ball in which was sent back across the box, and Budrys pounced for an 82nd minute winner. Reed and Thomas both had shots blocked as Aber pushed for an equaliser, but it was not to be and the visitors defence held firm. The Black and Greens will be looking to make amends for a rather harsh defeat when they visit Carmarthen next Friday evening for a 7.45pm kick off. The Coach will leave Park Avenue at 4.45pm.
