Aberystwyth Town FC are delighted to confirm that a mere two weeks into pre-season, five more of last season’s squad have already committed to remain at Park Avenue next season.
Local heroes Geoff Kellaway and Mathew Jones will return in July, as will defenders Wes Baynes and Ryan Wollacott. Lee Jenkins also remains on contract meaning that already seven of last season’s Squad have agreed deals to represent the Club again in 2019/20. Kellaway was on superb form since Christmas and ended up as the Club’s top scorer on 9 goals, Baynes contributing 4 from right back, with Wollacott notching three, and Jenkins one – the famous winner against TNS in November. Wollacott made 31 starts and played the most football of any Town player last season, a grand total of 2761 minutes! Baynes and Jones made 30 appearances each or 2700 minutes, while Kellaway started 19 games with 11 sub appearances and Jenkins started 11 games with 5 sub appearances. Aberystwyth Town are delighted to retain all five players for next season and look forward to watching them again in 2019/20. Aberystwyth Town are delighted to announce that legendary Welsh Premier League striker Les Davies has agreed to join the Black and Greens for season 2019/20. A long time thorn in Aber’s side, most famously in the Welsh Cup Final of 2009, Davies’ aerial strength and superb left foot will finally be deployed in the Seasiders’ favour next season. Les, affectionately nicknamed “The Truck,” is best known as the iconic striker who helped Bangor City and Nev Powell to Welsh Premier League Title glory in 2011, not to mention Welsh Cup wins in 2008,9 and 10. He has since played for Connah’s Quay, Bala and Llandudno and comes to Park Avenue with 123 WPL goals to his name from over 400 appearances. Davies has represented Wales at Under 18 and Under 21 level and also as a semi-professional for their Under 23 team, and was nominated for the UEFA Player of the Year award in July 2012. Everyone at Park Avenue welcomes Les to the Club and wishes him all the best in Black and Green. Welsh Women's League
Sunday 5th May 2019 Aberystwyth Town Ladies 7 (Cooper 2', 34', Cat Davies 30, 45+1, Wylde 36', 79', Ashman 75' pen) Llangyfelach Ladies 0. Aber Town Ladies won their 17th successive league game to end their time in the Welsh Women's League in style. Caroline Cooper (2 goals), Tania Wylde (2), Cat Davies (2) and goalkeeper, Ffion Ashman (pen) were all on target for the Mid-Wales side, writes Steven Brookes. After entering the pitch to applause from their visitors, the league winners were hopeful of ending what has been an excellent season with yet another three points, and the Black and Greens got off to a near perfect start, Caroline Cooper capitalising on a defensive error before poking the ball past the keeper after two minutes. Ffiona Evans nearly doubled Aber's lead but was unfortunately denied by the crossbar. It took until the half-hour mark for Town to make it two, Cat Davies placing the ball into the net from the edge of the six yard box following good work down the right from Delun Roberts. Cooper grabbed her second four minutes later with a powerful strike from distance. 'Coops' then turned provider when playing the ball out-wide to Tania Wylde who cut inside, beat the defender and side-footed the ball into the net. There was just enough time to for Aber to make it five, Cat Davies poking the ball past the keeper after an excellent through ball by Caroline Cooper before the ball slowly crossed the line. In the second half some of Aber's youngsters were given a chance to impress. Dwynwen Davies was a half-time substitute whilst Sophie-Tia Griffiths and Charlotte Bowden appeared later on. Bowden came close to scoring her first goal for the club when her well-hit volley was saved by the visiting goalkeeper. With fifteen minutes remaining Aber finally scored a sixth... through arguably their most unlikely of goalscorers. Ffion Ashman was called forward to take a penalty that was awarded after a foul on Ffiona Evans and the popular goalkeeper made no mistake with her powerful left-footed strike. The final goal of the season was to be scored four minutes later and unsurprisingly it was Tania Wylde who found the net with a low shot from the edge of the area, the top-scorer's 34th goal in just 25 matches. The next league match for Aberystwyth Town Ladies will be a Welsh Premier Women's League fixture after a thoroughly deserved promotion and successful season! Thank you to everyone who has supported the team this season, reading reports, following on social media, watching highlights videos and especially those who have attended games. Your support means a lot to all involved. Aberystwyth Town FC are delighted to announce that influential midfielders Marc Williams and Paolo Mendes have committed to remain at Aberystwyth Town FC for season 2019/20. The hard working Williams joined Aberystwyth in January from Bangor City and had a hugely impressive spell, fitting into the team shape immediately and becoming an influential link between midfield and attack. He also scored 4 goals from 10 WPL appearances which bodes well for next season. Wrexham based Paolo impressed throughout last season with his tenacious tackling, and with 26 (+3 sub) WPL appearances was almost an ever present. He also popped up with three goals, all scored in South West Wales at Llanelli and Carmarthen! Further squad announcements are expected over the next few days. Welsh Premier Development League Play Off Final
Monday 6th May Aberystwyth Town 2 Cefn Druids 1 Aberystwyth Town's Black and Green Under 19s retained their National League Trophy last night at Newtown with a well deserved 2-1 victory over Northern Champions Cefn Druids, thanks to goals from Lee Jenkins (36 mins) and captain Tom Evans, whose 75th minute strike won the match following Lewis George's injury time equaliser for the Ancients. Looking to repeat their first of last season by winning the Club's first ever National League Trophy, Bari Morgan's team started well with Dylan Benjamin and Tom Evans prominent down the right, and Harri Rowe impressing on the left side. A number of opportunities were created with Liam Doherty and Niall Coleridge amongst others going close, but then nine minutes before the break Welsh Schools Captain Jenkins rose like a salmon to power home a header and give the Ceredigion side a priceless lead. Oli Farebrother did brilliantly to deny George in a one on one but then in the third minute of injury time George sneaked in at the back post to equalise, leaving the game in the balance. In truth Aber had dominated the first half without taking all their opportunities, and that pattern was repeated in the second half with Town's back four of Rowe, Jenkins, Ryan Evans and Benjamin looking solid, Liam Berner, Carwyn Morgan and the tricky Niall Coleridge controlling the midfield and the front three of Steff Gittins, Doherty and Evans always looking dangerous. Finally with a quarter hour remaining Evans down the right was played in by Doherty, and he expertly spun his man before blasting the winner low into the corner of the net. Druids' Ryan Davies was sent off with eight minutes to go and Aber saw the game out comfortably to ensure another hugely impressive triumph. Captain Tom Evans received the Trophy amid joyous scenes and Manager Bari Morgan, Assistant Stefano Antoniazzi and Goalkeeping Coach Dave Owen were proud men as their young side celebrated another remarkable triumph. They have a chance to earn a third Trophy of the season on Friday night at Machynlleth when they face Llanidloes Town in the Central Wales FA Youth Cup Final. Everyone at the Club congratulates the entire squad on a wonderful achievement, which bodes well for the future of Aberystwyth Town FC and football in Ceredigion. Aberystwyth Town: Farebrother, Benjamin, Rowe, Jenkins, R Evans, Coleridge, Morgan, Doherty (Lloyd 90+4), Gittins (Crowl 89), T Evans (Captain), Berner (Cottam 90+4). Subs not used: Pennock, Rodgers.
