Aberystwyth Town FC was intrigued to learn about a game played last Saturday at the Cardiff University Playing Fields between the ATFC Lions Oldboys, the Black and Greens’ onetime sister DIGS League side, and players from Aber Exiles FC, a Cardiff based Club now competing in the Cardiff Combination League Division 2 and affiliated to the South Wales Football Association. The Old Boys team included well known Town Supporters such as ex-Media Officer Mark Tanner, Kristian Jones (Bungle), Paul Coyne and Danny Emmison, but they were unable to prevent the Old Boys falling to a 6-0 defeat. The teams then retired to the Four Elms pub in Roath to enjoy the Champions League Final. James Naik, Club Secretary and Manager of Aber Exiles told atfc.org.uk: "To be honest our boys have been playing together for about two years now, and the Old Boys were a bit out of practice. We had a Trophy made for the game which we named the Huw Owen Library Cup." The Exiles play in Green and White shirts bearing an uncanny resemblance to Aber Town's shirts, and James explains: "About half our side either studied in Aber, or are from there. Quite a few of them follow Aber Town, and used to go to games when they lived there." "Last season started poorly but we ended it well and finished fifth. We are looking to set up a Reserve side this year which could see us promoted to Division One of the Combination League." Aber Town wish the Exiles all the best for the forthcoming season, and hope to develop links with the Club in the future.
