Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Tuesday 20th December Aberystwyth Town 0 Bangor City 3 After a tight first sixty minutes, three Bangor goals in the final period of the game did for Aber Town at Park Avenue this evening. Damian Allen put a dagger in the Black and Greens hearts with goals on 60 and 69 minutes, and sub Rodrigo Blanco bagged a third on 83 minutes to rub salt into the wounds. On a chilly Winter's night unchanged Aber started the game looking solid at the back, as you might expect from a side which hadn't conceded in three and a half weeks. Bangor did control posession and showed some nice touches early on, without really hurting the hosts in any meaningful way. Aberaeron based Henry Jones went close early on before Chris Jones retorted for Aber with a curling shot just wide. Brayden Shaw was next to miss the target by Bangor, followed by Anthony Miley with a header. With Aber starting to find their feet the chances started to come and Joe Clarke played a great through ball to Geoiff Kellaway who was called offside with the goal gaping. Gary Roberts blasted over for Bangor but then the first save of the game came from Bangor's Connor Roberts to block Chris Jones' free kick. Henry Jones had the last chance of the half but with the hosts seemingly having weathered the storm, looking composed and defending well most Aber fans were pleased with a 0-0 half time score. Shaw saw a shot turned round the corner by Chris Mullock after the break and then at the other end Luke Borrelli was played clean through only to be denied by a huge Connor Roberts save. At this point the game was looking rather cagey with both sides trying to enforce the one mistake which looked likely to swing the game, and alas, when Aber lost posession on the hour the Citizens worked the way into the area and when Jones was denied Allen popped up at the far post to open the scoring. Michael Higden headed wide then Henry Jones's sublime right footed volley brought an equally impressive right handed save from Mullock round the post. However, from the resultant corner Allen sent in a cross cum shot from the left wing which evaded everyone and curled into the far corner for two nil. In repsonse Chirs Jones played a suiblime crossfield ball to sub Kostya Georgievsky, but his shot from the left wing was again parried by Roberts, and Bangor survived again. Mullock made another good save to deny Blanco but then the Brazilian slid in the near channel and blasted the ball high into the roof of the net for the third, and the game was well and truly gone. Abedr sub Jack Rimmer found Borrelli inside the area, but his shot glanced inches wide and the game ended, rather harshly for Aber, at 0-3. A heavy defeat was tough to take this evening for Aber who did well for sixty minutes, but it does not constitute a mortal blow, and attention now turns to the Christmas double header against keen local rivals Newtown, starting on Boxing Day at Park Avenue (ko 1.30pm). Don't stop believing in the Black and Greens! Comments are closed.
