Pre Season Friendly
Saturday 22nd July 2017 Aberystwyth Town 4-1 Haverfordwest County The Black and Greens prevailed in their second pre-season fixture, beating Haverfordwest by four goals to one. A friendly's purpose is to prepare the team for the intensity of a competitive season and this friendly did just that, offering a hotly contested match up played at a frenetic pace. The first half was a real end-to-end affair, but both sides struggled to make chances with much of the early battling taking place in midfield. Chances did start flowing once the game had settled into its rhythm and it was Aberystwyth who took advantage first. A miss-hit cross found it's way to an Aber player who skillfully weaved himself some space just outside the box and fired a shot which nestled in the bottom right corner. Less than 10 minutes later, the lead was doubled, Jonny Spittle finishing emphatically from another corner. At this point the home side were looking very comfortable and good value for their 2-0 lead going into half time. Play continued in the second half as if half-time had not occurred, however this time it was the visitors who looked stronger as they continued to pressure Chris Mullock's goal. Wayne Jones in charge today began to ring the changes, allowing the majority of the squad to get a run out. The integrity of these new additions was quickly tested as Haverfordwest halved the deficit. Despite the defence's best efforts to clear the ball off the line, the goal was awarded and suddenly The Bluebirds came to life. What followed was a fractious ten minutes with both teams wrestling for control of the match, the next goal all important. It was Aberystwyth who relieved this pressure, Cledan Davies dispatching with power from the penalty spot. At 3-1 the home side were cruising despite the best efforts of the away side to disrupt their flow. Ten minutes later and the game was wrapped up, an own goal from a fantastic offensive cross from the right-back made it 4-1. A fantastic spectacle for the sizeable crowd which is sure to have provided the perfect preparation for the squad ahead of the Welsh Premier League season. Plenty of strong performances in both halves will leave Nev Powell with plenty to ponder as the Nevolution continues at Park Avenue. Next up for the Black and Greens is an away fixture against Ynysygerwn followed by Briton Ferry the next afternoon. Report by Tomos Ings Comments are closed.
