Sunday 3rd December SWWGL Women’s Alun Evans Cup Group Stage Aberystwyth Town Ladies 3 Cwmbran Town 1 In the third match of this season’s League Cup Group Stage, Aber Town Ladies had to come from a goal behind to beat fellow Women’s Welsh League side Cwmbran Celtic. Hannah Pusey, Tania Wylde and Stephanie Land were the goal scorers for the Black and Greens, writes Steven Brookes. After last week’s 2-0 away victory to Barry, Aber’s third league cup match in a row was at home to Cwmbran Celtic, whom Town had already beaten 5-0 in the league earlier this season; but this time it was the away side that scored the opening goal when Fiona Anthony found herself one on one and put the ball past the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner. The homesters were managing to get numerous shots on target from inside and outside the box and eventually they did find the equaliser with five minutes of the half remaining when Hannah Pusey’s brilliant right footed strike from inside the box found the far top corner of the net. The Black and Greens dominated the early stages of the second half and deservedly took the lead when Tania Wylde cut inside from out wide and her long range right footed shot beat the keeper and ended up in the top corner. Aber's shot count kept increasing as they searched for a third to secure victory: Wylde had a couple of long range efforts go over the bar whilst Stephanie Land came close when put through one on one but was unable to find the back of the net. Land didn’t need to wait too long though to get her name on the scoresheet however and in added time, Helen Evans’s strike smashed the crossbar and the ball eventually fell to Land who poked it past the keeper to secure victory for Aber's in-form Ladies. Town's next match is a league game away to Caerphilly Castle LG. Comments are closed.
