Welsh Premier Women's League
Sunday 16th October Aberystwyth Town Ladies 0 Swansea City 6 Aber Ladies played their first game on the new 3G facility against high flying Swansea Ladies last Sunday and found the going tough against a very good Swansea side who ensured there was no dream start for the Ladies on the new pitch. Swansea only took 3 minutes to get on the score sheet when from a free kick Stacy John lashed home after a melee in the box. The visitors continued to press and the Aber girls were finding it tough to get any foothold in the game but they battled for everything and with Thomas, Evans and skipper Ffi Evans working hard Aber began to show signs of getting into the game. Jenkins and Roberts up front were getting at the Swansea back four and from a couple of corners were unlucky with a few efforts. However with seconds left of the first half a mazy run ended when Ria Hughes scored the second goal just on the brink of half time. That was a cruel blow to Aber as they had been holding the Swansea attack at bay. A more positive start to the second half by Aber with young Helen Evans becoming more prominent with her strong running almost got Aber back into the game and they were despite Swansea having a lot of possession holding them at bay. The third goal however was a well worked and taken effort by Hancocks in the 69th minute which put the game to bed and with further goals coming in the 80th, 89th and 92nd minute the points went to South Wales. Despite the setback Aber remain 5th in the table and look forward to a more positive result in the next game. Next up for Aber is a long trip North to Kinmel Bay in the Welsh Cup.
