 Show Racism the Red Card’s Fortnight of Action takes place in Wales from 8th – 22nd October, 2016. Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. The organisation utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society. The campaign delivers educational workshops to young people and adults in their schools, workplaces and at events held in stadiums. This weekend will see Aberystwyth Town support the Fortnight of Action 16 in our fixture against Rhyl, both teams will be wearing anti-racism T-shirts prior to kick off to show their support for Show Racism the Red Card and its anti-racism work. The Fortnight of Action 16 forms part of the FARE Football People action weeks and is supported by the Football Association of Wales. This year’s Fortnight of Action will see clubs along with its players across Wales all unite to challenge discrimination and celebrate the contribution we all make to football, wherever we live, whatever our connection to the game and whatever our background. What started as a minor campaign in nine countries in 2001 has now become the largest series of anti-discrimination activities in sport In 2015, over 2,000 activities took place in 67 countries, including Mexico, Vietnam, the United States and South Africa, with some of Europe’s top stars lending support to the campaign such as Yaya Touré, Thiago Silva, Thomas Hitzlsperger and Edinson Cavani. All UEFA Europa League, Champions League and EURO 2016 Qualifying matches took part in the campaign, reaching fans directly at the matches and millions more through television. In 2015, 199 professional clubs participated in the campaign, joined by 17 European FAs, 12 leagues and three players’ unions. Our club ambassador this season is Geoff Kellaway who shared his thoughts saying: "Our Players are all behind this initiative and will be delighted to show our Support on Friday night." Manager Matthew Bishop also highlighted the clubs stance against racism: "As a Club we fully support the great work carried out by Show Racism The Red Card in their work to rid the game of all forms of discrimination." Football is a sport that is followed by all, and should be an enjoyable experience for all, whatever their background. During the Fortnight of Action the campaign are launching a new educational films titled “Wales Is My Home”. The film has been funded by Sport Wales and explores the issues of immigration and racism from the point of view of Wales’s migrant community. It features a range of interviews with individuals that have a migrant background or are Refugees. Sport stars such as Robert Earnshaw and Kenwyne Jones also feature in the film along with others involved in Welsh sport.
