Aberystwyth Town vs Flint Town United
JD Cymru Premier Friday 28th October (KO 8pm) Anthony Williams’ Black and Greens will be looking to continue their recent good run at home tomorrow night as Flint Town United visit Ceredigion. The Seasiders have won three on the bounce at home – a run that stretches back nearly two months. These wins have proved crucial in keeping Aber in touch with the coveted Top Six, with the first phase now exactly at the halfway stage of 11 games Last weekend, Aber pushed Caernarfon Town all the way for a late equaliser, but the hosts held firm to take all three points thanks to a 2-1 victory. Flint hosted Airbus UK Broughton, now managed by former ATFC striker Jamie Reed, at Cae Y Castell and were victorious 1-0, which has lifted tomorrow night’s visitors to 7th in the league table. This season has seen a new look Flint Town United. Lee Fowler replaced Neil Gibson as Manager during the summer, and he was joined by former Llandudno manager Iwan Williams as Assistant. The new management team have recruited well, with a mix of experienced Cymru Premier players such as Anthony Stephens and James Owen joined by former EFL players Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro and Larnell Cole. Their top scorer so far this season is former Chester & Accrington Stanley man Okera Simmonds. The forward, who spent time at Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers as a youngster, has netted 4 times already this season. Both fixtures between the two teams were marred by controversial refereeing decisions which went against the Black & Greens. The fixture at Cae Y Castell in August 2021 saw Flint snatch all three points through a 93rd minute goal from Alex Jones, despite strong protests of a double handball. Aber then suffered another gut wrenching defeat in the return game at Park Avenue, as an astonishingly harsh decision to disallow an injury time equaliser denied Antonio Corbisiero’s side what would have been a valuable point as Flint triumphed 2-1. The Green Army will be hoping that luck is on our side this time around! Admission prices at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue Stadium are £8 for Adults, £5 for Concessions, £2 for Secondary School age children and free entry for Primary School age children.
