Aber Town Women fell at the Semi-Final stage of the Genero Adran Trophy after a 4-0 defeat to last years’ finalists Cardiff City. The Bluebirds took the lead in the 10th minute of the game. A corner from the right by Ffion Price found Megan Bowen at the front post, who headed home to give City the lead. Town had a good ten-minute spell after opener. Lleucu Mathias caused problems for the hosts down the right, but Aber struggled to find a breakthrough. Cardiff doubled their lead before the break. A good volley from Price found the top left corner put the hosts in control.
Aber kept pushing for a way back into the game in the second period, but a strong Cardiff backline made it difficult for the travelling Seasiders. Gari Lewis made changes in the second half to try and change the game, including Ffion Wyn Roberts, who came on for her first appearance of the season. Despite their efforts, Ffion Price scored two more to complete her hattrick: the first came from a driven efforts from the edge of the area, to give City their third of the game. Then just before the final whistle, Price added her third from a free kick, meaning Cardiff City will face Swansea City in the final of the Genero Adran Trophy. Gari Lewis said after the game: “It was a tough day for the girls. I couldn’t ask for anymore. The effort was outstanding. We got done on a set-piece which was a surprise for us, then a breath-taking second for them killed the game off. We just couldn’t get any front-foot football going. “Cardiff are a very good side. A lot of respect for them, they’re a good outfit. We keep going and keep learning, no problem with that. The girls gave everything, it’s just a matter of learning from it." The Seasiders face Berriew this evening in the CWFA Women’s Cup Semi-Finals (KO 7.30pm), before returning to Cardiff in two weeks’ time for the first game of Phase Two in the Genero Adran Premier.
