Sadwrn Gorffennaf 15fed/Saturday 15th July Gem Gyfeillgar//Pre Season Friendly Tref Aberystwyth Town 1 Met Caerdydd/Cardiff Met 0 Rhoddodd Tref Aber perfformiad dechau a chalonogol brynhawn Sadwrn ar Goedlan y Parc i guro Met Caerdydd, oedd wedi gorffen y llynedd yn bedwerydd yn y Cymru Prem, o gol i ddim. Lob dyheuig o’r hanner ffordd gan dreialwr gyda pum munud i fynd oedd y gwahaniaeth rhwng y ddau tim, oedd ar wahan i’r gol yn weddol gyfartal. Aber Town gave a creditable and encouraging performance on Saturday at Park Avenue to beat Cymru Prem Fourth placed finishers Cardiff Met in a pre season friendly by one goal to nil. An 85th minute lob from half way by a trialist beat Met’s substitute goalkeeper and proved the difference between two otherwise well matched sides. Town started with a similar side to Tuesday evening, with four triallists joining Dave Jones, Liam Walsh, Akeem Hinds, Iwan Lewis, Jack Thorn, Jon Owen and Beau Cornish in the starting eleven, and gave a very solid performance over the first 45, restricting the visitors to very few attempts.
The hosts had the first chance as Cornish and Lewis combined well down the left to set up Thorn, but his low drive went wide. They then repelled free kicks, corners and crosses with relative ease, before a trialist had a shot saved by Alex Lang in the visiting goal. Walsh crossed for Owen to send an attempt wide but then Hinds was needed to clear a ball off the line. Owen then played in Thorn who went close at the near post but the half ended goal less. Town made four substitutions at half time with Callum Huxley, Steff Davies and two further trialists coming on, and two further trialists emerged on the hour, but their performance level didn’t drop. A trialist made a nice run down the right side and had a low shot saved by Lang, then at the other end Walsh got in well to deny Sam Jones a clear effort on goal. Aber continued to press but then a Cardiff Met trialist blazed over a great opportunity after a left sided cross, to show the game was still wide open. Harry Owen had a shot blocked for Met, then Cian Williams blazed over, before at the other end Met’s sub keeper denied Steff Davies at point blank range, and another Black and Green trialist brought another save from the visiting netminder. Aber’s sub keeper did well to deny Jones after a right wing cross, but then just as the game seemed to be headed towards a goalless draw the ball dropped on the right touchline to Aber’s trialist, and his audacious right footed lob caught the visiting keeper off guard and dropped into the net for a spectacular strike! Aber defended stoutly thereafter to gain a most encouraging result after another solid team performance. Aber even found time to win a post match penalty shoot out by 5-4 thanks to successful strikes from three trialists, Dave Jones and Steff Davies, with Jones also excelling to save one Met pen, before Dixon Kabongo hit the crossbar to bring proceedings to a climax. Overall this was a positive day for those in Black and Green who can look forward with confidence to their next friendly match a week Tuesday (July 25th) at home to Bow Street with a 7.30pm kick off. Surely we will see you there! Comments are closed.
