Aberystwyth Town Women manager Gav Allen has called on his squad to raise their standards after a disappointing 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Pontypridd United. The Seasiders had the bulk of possession and chances at Park Avenue on Sunday afternoon, but couldn't convert. Only Tania Wylde managed to get on the scoresheet for the hosts - and that was courtesy of a penalty. "We created so many chances without taking some fantastic opportunities to win the game," said boss Allen afterwards. "On reflection, we should have been two or three nil up at half time. But that's the level of football. If you don't take your chances, teams in the Adran Premier will come back and bite you." He was quick to praise Pontypridd's game plan - but also warned his own side they need to be ready to bounce back as they travel to TNS this Sunday (kick-off 2pm). "The girls need to understand that they've got to perform in every game," he said. "We've got to be at a high standard to to to get into the top four. That's our ambitions for this year. "The potential is there in the group. It's a learning curve for the girls and I'm hoping that they will grasp it as quick as they can. BY CARRIE DUNN
