Saturday 26th December (kick off 2.30pm)
Dafabet Welsh Premier League Haverfordwest County v Aberystwyth Town The Black and Greens return to action on Saturday to face Haverfordwest County in a Dafabet Welsh Premier League Boxing Day Derby, with Ian Hughes' men on a massive high following two excellent performances and results. The gradual return of a number of suspended, injured and ineligible Players, allied to a noticeable togetherness in the Squad helped Aber gain a 1-1 draw at TNS, and a 4-0 win at home to Bangor City on Saturday, and Lee Surman, Jamie Reed and Geoff Kellaway all had important parts to play in Saturday's win, not to mention the incomparable Chris Venables, who scored twice and was named in Sgorio's Team of the Week. Aber Supporters know that if the Black and Greens keep that run of form going, a place in the WPL Top Six is there for the taking. As Manager Ian Hughes put it “With all our players in we’ve got a hell of a team. The players we’ve got at this football club are excellent, scoring four goals and we could have scored more. We hit the bar three times and created numerous chances. That’s helped to improve our goal difference which is vital given it’s a tight league". Hughes targeted four wins from 6 games prior to Saturday's match, which means another three wins are the minimum requirement over the next 18 days. After Saturday's heroics Aber have no reason to feel anything other than confident heading into their game at Bridge Meadow against the League's bottom side, however having lost twice away to Haverfordwest already this season (3-2 in an August Pre Season friendly and 4-1 in a September Word Cup tie) there will be no danger of any complacency in the Green ranks.Town Supporters will be able to reacquaint themselves with onetime Aber players such as Jordan Follows, Craig Morris, Ryan Batley and Declan Carroll. A big result down in Pembrokeshire will build on a real sense of momentum surrounding the First Team at the moment, and your support will make it easier for them get that result. Kick off at Bridge Meadow on Saturday is at 2.30pm and the Coach will leave at 11am, at a charge of £10 for Adults and £5 Concessions. Football and Boxing Day - it's a combination which has been making people happy for over 100 years! Dafabet Welsh Premier League
Tuesday 29th December (kick off 7.45pm) Aberystwyth Town v Carmarthen Town Aberystwyth Town and Carmarthen Town will make a fourth attempt to play their Dafabet WPL Match at Park Avenue next Tuesday 29th December with a 7.45pm kick off. After Saturday's visit to Haverfordwest the Black and Greens will therefore finish the first phase of the Dafabet WPL Season with four home games in eighteen days, with Carmarthen, Haverfordwest, Port Talbot and Newtown coming to Aber in quick succession. Aberystwyth Town v Carmarthen Town - Match Postponed
Aberystwyth Town have been left frustrated by another Park Avenue postponement, following a pitch inspection carried out by the WPL Match Assessor around 3.30pm this afternoon. A waterlogged surface caused by inclement weather over the past few days means the match will now be rearranged. Aberystwyth Town regret any inconvenience caused by this postponement. Tuesday 22nd December (kick off 7.45pm)
Dafabet Welsh Premier League Aberystwyth Town v Carmarthen Town The Black and Greens return to Park Avenue tomorrow to face neighbours Carmarthen Town in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League, with Ian Hughes' men are on a massive high following two excellent performances and results over the past ten days. The gradual return of a number of suspended, injured and ineligible Players, allied to a noticeable togetherness in the Squad, has helped Aber gain a 1-1 draw at TNS, and a 4-0 win at home to Bangor City on Saturday, and Lee Surman, Jamie Reed and Geoff Kellaway all had important parts to play in Saturday's win, not to mention the incomparable Chris Venables, who scored twice and was named in Sgorio's Team of the Week. Visitors Carmarthen Town were right in the hunt for a Top Six spot themselves, but a 4-1 defeat at Newtown on Saturday has damaged those prospects. However Dyfed derbies between the sides are known to be open and free scoring affairs, and the Black and Greens have never yet had an easy game against the Orangemen. Ian Hughes told atfc.org.uk: "We know it’s going to be a tough game, they’re a very good side with some very good players. But things are starting to click for us now. We’re getting stronger, we’ve got players rediscovering form, players coming back from injury so we’ll be confident going into the game and hopefully the fans will come down to support us again like they did on Saturday.” Kick off at Park Avenue on Friday is at 7.45pm and Admission will cost £6 for Adults, £4 Concessions and £1 for Children. Terrific Tuesdays: it's an Aber thing. Please note: due to the inclement weather forecast for Ceredigion tomorrow a pitch inspection is planned for 3.30pm. Should the game be postponed the Club will immediately inform its supporters via its Facebook and Twitter accounts, which can be accessed directly from this page. After being on the end of many disappointing and often heart breaking score lines against Bangor, Saturday’s 4-0 victory against the North Wales university city brought much happiness to the Aberystwyth Town faithful, writes Club Media Assistant Matthew Wallace. On an afternoon better suited to staying indoors, Town produced a stunning display, imposing and comfortable from the first whistle to the last, in stark contrast to the horrific weather conditions both had to play in. After a goalless albeit entertaining first half, the game exploded into life on the hour mark thanks to a brace from Chris Venables and a strike apiece for Jamie Reed and Geoff Kellaway. “The performance from start to finish today was excellent", said Manager Ian Hughes. "Even in the first half where we didn’t score, but we were dominant. With all our players in we’ve got a hell of a team. The players we’ve got at this football club are excellent, scoring four goals and we could have scored more. We hit the bar three times and created numerous chances. That’s helped to improve our goal difference which is vital given it’s a tight league“ Ian Hughes stated after the match. Hughes was alluding to the fact that Saturday’s game marked the return to the first team of Geoff Kellaway, less than two months after being stretchered off with a serious looking knee injury. The boss was quick to heap praise on the club’s physio Ffiona Evans and the winger himself. “Our Physio deserves immense credit. Ffiona has worked tirelessly with Geoff over the past weeks. Geoff himself deserves credit for working so hard to come back from injury so quickly.” There can be little doubt that the introduction of Kellaway swung the momentum in Aber’s favour. His mazy running caused Bangor’s back line all sorts of problem and was ultimately their undoing. “He’s come back on today, grabbed the goal that he deserved and it’s great to see him back. We are very capable of creating chances but what was more pleasing was defensively we were excellent. Mike Lewis was confident, kicking great, coming to get the ball. He didn’t have a save to make at all. Stuart Jones and Lee Surman were both excellent. Even at 4-0 up against ten men, they were winning headers in the penalty area that they had no business winning which just shows the desire that is in the squad." As much as the Seasiders would like to enjoy the victory, there is little rest up as they play Carmarthen Town on Tuesday in a hastily rearranged fixture. “Hopefully the rain will stop by then!” joked Hughsey. “We know it’s going to be a tough game, they’re a very good side with some very good players. But things are starting to click for us now. We’re getting stronger, we’ve got players rediscovering form, players coming back from injury so we’ll be confident going into the game and hopefully the fans will come down to support us again like they did today.” Aberystwyth Town's home game tomorrow evening against Carmarthen Town kicks off at 7.45pm. A match preview will be posted later on today. |
