Aberystwyth Town Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Antonio Corbisiero as First Team Manager, following Gavin Allen's resignation in May.
Antonio joined Aberystwyth Town in January 2013 having won the Welsh Premier League, the Welsh Cup, and the League Cup during his seven years with Llanelli. He also played in the Champions League, UEFA Cup, and the Europa League with the club he skippered, scoring 15 goals from 206 (+10) Welsh Premier appearances. Antonio moved to Ceredigion before signing with the Seasiders, and his calmness and quality on the ball helped Aber to safety in his first season. In the Summer of 2013, Corbs was made First Team Coach alongside running the U16 Academy squad. In two and a half seasons in Black and Green, he played in the Welsh Cup Final in May 2014 and the UEFA Europa League in 2014/5. Corbs made 64 WPL appearances for the Black and Greens, scoring once, totalling 280 WPL appearances in all (including 16 goals) since joining Llanelli in 2005, previously representing Swansea City and Newport County. Antonio's work rate on the pitch was second to none, placing him as an excellent example to the young players he has coached at the academy and through to the First Team. Corbs was appointed Assistant Manager in June 2020, following a spell as First Team Coach in 2019/20. Club Chairman Donald Kane said: "Corbs' appointment retains our all-local management structure and we are sure that the young talented players in our squad will go on to achieve bigger and better things at the club in the future, with the support and guidance of Corbs and his management team. I would add that the Board of Directors unanimously supported Antonio's appointment and we will work hard over the summer to ensure he has all the support he needs in preparation for the 2021/22 campaign." Antonio said: "I am very proud and honoured to be given the opportunity to manage my hometown club. I am extremely excited to get going and do all I can with my coaching team to get the best out of each individual to perform at their highest ability. Myself and the coaching team have been working extremely hard to put everything in place ready for pre-season and the upcoming season. We thank all our supporters for sticking with us behind the walls and on the bus, and we look forward to seeing you back in the ground, cheering on the Black and Greens before too long."
