Aberystwyth Town will play their football in the bottom 6 this season following Saturday’s heartbreaking 85th minute winner from Cefn Druids’ Adam Eden, writes Club Media Assistant Matthew Wallace.
Going into the game, the Seasiders knew that only a win would keep realistic hopes of a top 6 finish alive. As the game elapsed, the home side threw more and more forward and of course, the danger of this was seen as Cefn Druids grabbed a deserved winner late on. Manager Matthew Bishop was in a philosophical mood following the completion of match: “We’re disappointed. But when you look at the season we’ve had, to even be in the mix is credit to the players. In a way, it’s a monkey off our back.” He told atfc.org.uk after the match. “Today we didn’t really apply ourselves at times, I’m not sure if the occasion got to them or not. Druids came here with a game plan and they’re a very good team. They caused us lots of problems. Our shape wasn’t quite right first half, but I’m very proud of what we’ve done." The game marked the end of an eventful week at Park Avenue with a number of coming and going keeping management and non playing staff busy alike. Despite the obvious disappointment at the result,, there’s much to be optimistic about for the second half of the season. “We’ve made some acquisitions this week, all of them will bring something different to the squad. It’s competition for places and from my perspective, I have to find the right balance and winning formula. The priority now is to get as many points as we can before the split. We’ve got to try and get that seventh place in the league for the second half of the season.” Unfortunately due to technical issues, this week's interview with Manager Matthew Bishop is unavailable on the Aber Town's youtube channel.
