Central Wales FA Youth Cup Final
Monday 25th May
Aberystwyth Town 1 Llanidloes Town 0
Aberystwyth Town U19's retained the Central Wales Youth Cup on Bank Holiday Monday, as they took on a hard working Llanidloes Town team in Rhayader and came away with a 1-0 victory.
Emyr Jones's side began the strongest, Sion Ewart shooting over the bar in the first few minutes, with the attack force of Dafydd Carruthers and Liam Lewis causing the Llani defence problems. The midfield trio of Alex Davies, captain Rhydian Davies and Iolo Ap Dafydd were also dominant early on. Sion Ewart had another chance for the young Seasiders, as his low shot was wide after being played in by Liam Jaques. As the half wore on both teams had chances, with the Aber keeper Adam Walters having to dive at the feet of a Llanidloes winger, whilst at the other end Liam Lewis and Iolo Ap Dafydd had chances for the Seasiders as the first half remained goalless.
The second half led to more clear cut chances for both sides as Aber and Llani both tried to take control of the game, and it was the Black and Greens again who had the best early chance, as a whipped in free kick by Liam Jaques was headed goalwards by Tom Wyn Roberts with his header inches wide of the post. Adam Walters continued to be in fine form as Llanidloes pushed on midway through the second half, with a couple of great stops to keep Aberystwyth in the tie, with defenders Owen Gawthorpe and Sion Evans having to be resolute as Llanidloes pulled bodies forward. With just under 10 minutes to go, Llanidloes had their best chance of the game, as a header from a corner was cleared off the line by Liam Lewis, and within seconds the ball was cleared to Dafydd Carruthers, who took the ball himself from the half way line, and from the right hand side of the box finished with precision to give the Seasiders the lead with just minutes left, the Seasiders controlling the last few minutes of the game to give themselves the cup once again.
