JD Welsh Premier League
Sunday 25th February (5:15 p.m Kick Off) Carmarthen Town v Aberystwyth Town Aberystwyth Town will look to continue their pursuit of top spot in the JD Welsh Premier League Play Off Conference this weekend, as they travel to face Carmarthen Town at Richmond Park on Sunday afternoon. Aber currently lie seven points behind Barry Town, who occupy top spot in the Play Off Conference, and will look to extend their two game unbeaten run as they face a resurgent Carmarthen Town side in front of the live Sgorio cameras. A late Geoff Kellaway goal helped Aber pick up a hard-earned point at home to Prestatyn Town last weekend, in a game of missed opportunities for Nev Powell’s side. Speaking after last Friday night’s game, Town assistant manager Wayne Jones was quick to highlight that it could be a valuable point gained come the end of the season, as opposed to two points dropped. Jones stated “We had a massive chance to jump up the league table tonight, but that chance will come again because the teams around us are going to take points off each other. Our aim is still to finish in the seventh place, and we’ve picked up an important 4 points in the last 2 games so it’s onwards and upwards”. Despite the host of opportunities that went begging in last weekend’s draw with Prestatyn, it’s clear that Aber’s management team remain positive in the belief that the black and greens can continue to improve as the season reaches it’s finale. Aber have lost just one of their last seven home games in all competitions which indicates the strength of the side in making Park Avenue somewhat of a fortress. Town’s only home defeat in those seven games came against Sunday’s hosts Carmarthen, who did the double over Nev Powell’s side during the festive period of fixtures. The old gold have benefited from an upsurge in form in recent weeks, picking up five victories in their last eight games in all competitions. They do however remain rooted to the relegation zone of the JD Welsh Premier League table, lying eight points adrift of safety heading into Sunday’s clash. Former Aber pairing Luke Bowen and Mark Jones now ply their trade at Richmond Park after joining in January, in a bid to boost Carmarthen's survival hopes. In what is sure to be another cracker of a West Wales derby, tune in to see whether Aber can avenge their festive double-header defeat against the old gold. Kick off at Richmond Park on Sunday is at 5:15p.m, and Carmarthen Town’s postcode is listed as SA31 1LR. In addition, the game will be televised live on Sgorio, with coverage beginning on S4C at 5p.m. With the vociferous Green Army of supporters promising to travel in numbers yet again, it’s sure to be another classic encounter!
