Aberystwyth Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of left-back Akeem Hinds from Stafford Rangers of the Northern Premier League (NPL), subject to international clearance. The 23-year-old becomes the fourth new face to arrive at Park Avenue this summer. Born in Sheffield, Akeem joined Sheffield United Academy at 13-years-old before switching to Rotherham United two years later, making his professional debut in October 2017 in the EFL Trophy against Chesterfield. In June 2018, Akeem was awarded his first professional contract with The Millers following the conclusion of his scholarship.
Akeem enjoyed brief loan spells with NPL clubs Frickley Athletic and Hyde United through the 2018/19 season before extending his deal with Rotherham United, loaned to Bradford (Park Avenue) for the first half of the season. In January 2020, his Rotherham United contract was terminated by mutual consent. Time with Lincoln City and Brackley Town followed before Akeem made 22 appearances for Buxton during their championship winning 2021/22 campaign and progression to the FA Cup 2nd Round. A second stint at Bradford (Park Avenue) followed before time with Matlock Town and most recently Stafford Rangers. Akeem told us: "I first saw the club a few months back on a work trip to Aberystwyth University and it caught my eye straight away. I really like how involved the community is with the club and how much the team means to the locals. I’m grateful to be a part of the club’s journey and hopefully this season we’ll bring more excitement to west Wales. I saw Taff a few weeks back and we had a conversation about the possibility of me joining. For me it was a no brainier, Taff is a great coach and very ambitious, which is the perfect environment for me to be in. I am an attacking full back that enjoys playing in the final third, putting crosses in the box as well as keeping clean sheets. On a personal note, for this season I want to make a noticeable impact and keep as a many clean sheets as possible and put the team in the best position I can. I have a personal target for how many goals and assists I want to get and I’ll be working hard towards those targets every game." Manager Anthony Williams commented: "Akeem has lots of experience having had an apprenticeship at Rotherham United before gaining first-team action at some well established teams in the English system. He's very athletic and can play a number of positions on the left side. Considering where he's based in Sheffield, Akeem has seen first-hand the exposure and opportunities the Cymru Premier can bring. He will certainly add quality to the squad and it's very exciting to see how new additions to the squad will impact and complement our current players." Croeso i'r clwb, Akeem! Comments are closed.
