Pre Season Friendly/Gem Gyfeillgar
Sadwrn/Saturday 13 Gorffenaf/July Tref Aberystwyth Town 0 Llanelli 1 Gol unigol Tom Hillman ar ol 32 munud enillodd y gem gyfeillgar hon i Llanelli, gyda’r tim o Sir Gar yn rhoi prawf go iawn i’r Gwyrdd a’r Duon prynhawn ddoe ar Goedlan y Parc. Gwnaeth eu gol geidwad Scott Coughlin rhai arbediadau da i sicrahu’r buddugoliaeth. Tom Hillman’s solo effort after 32 minutes won yesterday afternoons pre season friendly at Park Avenue for Llanelli, as the visitors provided the Black and Greens with a good test ahead of the new season, and their goalkeeper Scott Coughlin made some good saves to secure the win. Aber kicked off with new signings Niall Flint and Devon Torry operating in a front three alongside young Gwydion Dafis from Ffostrasol, who impressed with Aber’s development squad last season. Dafis sent in a decent cross early on which earned a corner, and then Louis Bradford’s header from Rhys Davies delivery was blocked. Then Johnnie Evans, deputising at right back, set up Flint who sneaked into space and sent a low shot inches wide of the far post. Credit to the visitors however, who came back into things and Aber’s trialist in goal had to be alert to punch Henry Jones’ free kick clear right on the goal line. Then just past the half hour Llanelli midfielder Tom Hillman beat Aber’s offside trap, surged through and rounded the keeper to put the visitors in front. Bradford had to be alert to prevent Lewis Isles doubling the lead, and Isles himself just missed the target from a good left wing cross by Joe Hunt. At the other end Iwan Lewis had an effort saved, then Torry went on a good run and brought another save from Scott Coughlan, but the Greeen Army couldn’t break through and the Reds went in a goal to the good. As frequently happens in pre seasons friendlies substitutions peppered the second half, and notably Iestyn Duggan from Aber’s development side came on again at right back, and made his mark for the final quarter. In truth the home side struggled to create too many chances, and in fact on 53 minutes Isles missed a penalty he had himself earned, blasting the ball to the left of the post. Llanelli’s Sean Cronin headed an attempt wide from a corner, then the flame haired winger Dafis went on a great run down the left and crossed for Torry who was only denied by a brilliant point blank save from Coughlin – probably Aber’s best move of the game. A series of promising set piece deliveries from Rhys Davies’ cultured left foot failed to earn anything for Aber, and as the game dwindled towards its conclusion Llanelli were probably good value for their 1-0 win on a day when things didn’t quite come together for Aber Town. Town Manager Anthony Williams will be hoping for a better performance next time round and with a number of players coming back into the squad the Black and Greens will be optimistic of doing so. Newly promoted Briton Ferry Llansawel are next to visit Park Avenue for a friendly on Tuesday evening, with a kick off of 7.30pm. Why not join us? Gem Gyfeillgar/Pre Season Friendly
Sadwrn/Saturday 13 Gorffenaf/July (CG/KO 12.30yh/pm) Tref Aberystwyth Town v Llanelli Mae paratoadau Tref Aber yn parhau amser cinio ddydd Sadwrn gydag ymweliad Llanelli o Gynghrair y JD Cymru South. Aber Town's pre-season continues this Saturday with the visit of JD Cymru South outfit Llanelli Town. Anthony Williams has already added exciting forward Devon Torry to his squad on loan from Newtown this week and is expected to take a look at a number of trialists again in Saturday's match, as he did during last week’s narrow friendly defeat to Northern Premier League champions Radcliffe FC. The visitors are familiar opposition; having spent many seasons in the Cymru Premier as both Llanelli AFC and Llanelli Town, winning the title back in 2008. They are now led by Lee John; best known for his time at Port Talbot Town in the 2000s when the Steelmen were regulars in the top echelons of the then Welsh Premier League. Last season, they finished second in the JD Cymru South, 7 points behind eventual champions Briton Ferry Llansawel. The Steelmen have strengthened this summer with plenty of new additions. James Dolman, Joe Lloyd, Lewis Iles, Taylor Jones, Alex Giardelli and Bradley Gibbings are all part of the new cohort but perhaps the most eye catching signings are those of former Newtown and Barry Town United midfielder Theo Wharton and former Haverfordwest, Bala Town and Penybont attacker Henry Jones. Season ticket will be on sale at the ground on Saturday at the bargain price of £80 for Adults and £50 for Over 65s. Admission prices for Saturdays friendly at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue will be £5 for adults and £3 for concessions, and £1 for Secondary School Age kids. Preparation for the 2024/25 season continues! Mae CPD Tref Aberystwyth yn falch dros ben o gyhoeddi dychweliad ffefryn y ffans Niall Flint i Goedlan y Parc, ar ol iddo treulio blwyddyn gyda Stourbridge yng Nghynghrair Deheuol Lloegr.
Aberystwyth Town are delighted to announce the return of fan favourite Niall Flint to Park Avenue, after a year away with Stourbridge in the English Southern League. Winger Niall will forever be remembered for his iconic 93rd minute diving header at the back post against Caernarfon in April 2023 which sealed Aber’s Cymru Premier status, and the celebrations which followed that goal will not be forgotten in a hurry. A willing runner who never gives up, a great crosser of the ball with a good finish too, Niall is a player who excites the fans, and his return will definitely get pulses racing at Park Ave this season. Born in Wellington, Shropshire Niall started his Welsh football odyssey at Newtown in 2019/20, scoring twice before joining Cefn Druids for the 20/21 season, scoring eight goals over two seasons for the Ancients. Niall then joined the Green Army for the 22/23 season, scoring six huge goals in 34 appearances for the Black and Greens. After a year back in England with Stourbridge Flint now returns to the Cymru Premier! Anthony Williams said: “It’s massive for the Club to get Niall back in. He did exceptionally well at Stourbridge but a change of managers there left an opportunity for us to go and get him. He really enjoyed his time with us last time, he then stepped up to a high level, then to get people like that back through the door shows that the togetherness of the squad and our ambitions for this season. Niall is fit, strong and carries the ball well in attack. He’s really going to make a difference for us and I am excited to get him back”. Niall said: "I'm excited to get back in with the lads and to enjoy playing in Black and Green again. I'm sure I'll settle in straight away and performances will follow to give the fans something to shout about! We'll have our own objectives and as a team we will give everything we can week in week out to achieve those. We'll be hard to beat at home and be looking to make Park Avenue somewhat of a fortress." Turning 18-years-old next month, South-African-born Devon joined The Robins during the 2021/22 season and made his senior debut in October 2022 at just 16-years-old. He has been a regular standout in the Cymru Premier Development League North since, scoring 21 goals in 23 games in 2022/23, and earning the League Golden Boot last season with 36 goals in 24 games, and recognition as the Robins' U19s Players' Player of the Year. Devon joined up with Town in pre-season and featured at centre-forward during Friday evening's pre-season opener with Radcliffe FC, impressing with his pace and direct play -- seeing an early goal disallowed. Manager Anthony Williams said: “Devon is a very talented footballer, he’s shown excellent ability since he’s been with us, in training sessions and in games. He’s got a lot of ability and just needs to play more senior football. He’s really exciting and really talented player and we are interested to see how he does this year, hopefully he develops really well.” Devon told atfc.org.uk: “I am really excited to get started. Gem Paratoadol/Pre Season Friendly Gwener/Friday 5 Gorffenaf/July Tref Aberystwyth Town 0 Radcliffe FC 1 Dechreuodd Aber eu paratoadau haf ar gyfer y tymor newydd gyda gem gystadleuol a difyr yn erbyn pencampwyr y Northern Premier Radcliffe FC nos Wener, gyda’r ymwelwyr yn fuddugol diolch i gol Jake Thompson ar ol 42 munud. Aber Town kicked off their pre season friendlies with an excellent and competitive workout against Northern Premier League Champions Radcliffe FC, who prevailed on Friday night thanks to Jake Thompson’s 42nd minute strike. Town kicked off the game with new signings Rhys Davies and Harry Arnison added to the core group of players who re-signed, along with three trialists, plus two more on the bench. Facing a strong squad fielding two separate sides in each half, the hosts started under pressure with Dave Jones prominent, punching away corners and long range efforts. However Aber were inspired by the appearance of Talybont FC’s players singing in the Dias stand, and Jonathan Evans did excellently down the left to feed a trialist to tap home, only to be denied by the offside flag. More pressure followed from the visitors, but then John Owen broke out, released a trialist down the right flank and his goalbound effort was saved by Radcliffe keeper Olly Thornley. Luca Navarro sent an effort over the bar for Radcliffe, and later had a long range effort saved by Jones, and Arnison sent in a free kick for Aber which was saved by Thornley. Aber’s lively trialist up front saw another attempt saved, but then three minutes before the break Thompson broke down the left flank and found the net for Boro with a low effort.
Two more trialists emerged after the break for Aber but it was the English side who dominated possession, with Town defending well. The Black and Greens’ trialist keeper did well to catch a cross from the livewire Jude Oyibo down the left wing, then at the other end Rhys Davies sent in a trademark left wing cross which was dropping in at the back post until Mateusz Hewett tipped it over. Davies sent in a corner which was caught by Hewett, then Johnny Evans chipped a shot wide from a promising position. Iestyn Duggan came on at right back for Aber and acquitted himself well, while for Radcliffe Bradley Jackson fired over and Louis Maynard’s header was parried to safety. Jamie Morgan headed over and Oyibo cut wide after a mazy run, but Town were always in the game and Iwan Lewis sent a rasper over the bar from the edge of the box. Tom Walker was last to be denied by the home keeper, and the visitors emerged with a 1-0 from a competitive game. Despite the result Aber competed well against a crack Northern outfit and showed that as a unit they will defend solidly and create chances in the season to come, so this was a very useful workout for the Black and Greens. Anthony Williams’ men return to action on Saturday lunchtime as they welcome Cymru South silver medalists Llanelli to Park Avenue for another friendly – please note the earlier kick off time of 12.30pm. |
