Welsh Premier Development League Final
Monday 7th May at Latham Park, Newtown
Aberystwyth Town 1 The New Saints 0
Bari Morgan's Aberystwyth Town Under 19s side won the Club's first ever National League Trophy on a beautifully sunny Bank Holiday at Newtown on Monday evening. Captain Jack Rimmer's penalty earned a 1-0 win over Development League (North) Champions The New Saints to earn the Club a trophy which went some way to make up for the previous day's disappointment in the JD Welsh Cup Final.
In a tense game Aber kept their defensive shape superbly with Lee Jenkins outstanding at Centre Back, and Jack Rimmer anchoring Centre Midfield. They also broke dangerously with right back Tom Evans catching the eye with some buccaneering ruins, Liam Doherty working like a trojan up front and Harri Horwood threatening down the left. The breakthrough came after 36 minutes when Rimmer was upended in the box and he himself got up to confidently strike the penalty home. From that moment on the Black and Greens kept things tight, restricting to TNS to half chances whilst looking very dangerous on the break, and ran out fully deserving Champions of Wales at the full time whistle, leading to raucous Celebrations as the Trophy was presented.
Bari Morgan, Iwan Roberts and all of the players deserve huge credit for achieving in one season something that Aberystwyth Town FC has never managed before in its 134 year history, and everyone at the Club hopes that this Golden Generation of Players will be able to develop into First Team Players in the coming seasons.
Aberystwyth Town: Alex Pennock, Liam Berner, Tom Evans, Jack Rimmer, Harri Horwood, Carwyn Morgan, Lee Jenkins, Liam Doherty, Niall Coleridge (Ryan Evans 77), Osian Rees Jones (Matthew Jones 65), Harri Rowe.
