Aberystwyth Town FC is saddened to hear of the passing of Wynne Hughes, who played for the Black and Greens for seventeen seasons between 1946 and 1962, making 250 appearances and scoring 44 goals.
Wynne was known as an all action wing half, or full back: a local boy who was educated at Ardwyn Grammar School and moved on to study at Loughborough University, whom he also represented. After University Wynne returned to Aberystwyth and became Head of Physical Education at Ardwyn. He later joined the staff of University College Wales Aberystwyth as a Physical Education Lecturer in Teacher Training, and went on to become Director of that Department and an Honorary Life Vice President of Aberystwyth Town Football Club. Wynne coached the University Football Team for many years and won the British Universities Cup under the Captaincy of Donald Kane: he was also Coach to the Welsh and British Universities teams. Hughes was also a well known local sportsman playing golf, tennis, squash, rugby and was also an officer and administrator for many sports. Aberystwyth Town FC sends its sincere condolences to Wynne's family and friends at this difficult time. Comments are closed.
