Aberystwyth Town FC is saddened to hear of the passing of Dyfrig Davies, who kept goal for the Club 392 times between 1965 and 1978, and was a key part of the Legendary Welsh Amateur Cup Winning side of 1969/70. The Old Black and Green summarises Dyfrig’s career thus: “(He was) first choice keeper for thirteen years and the most consistent in Mid Wales over that period. He had remarkable feline agility, safe hands and an uncanny anticipation common to all top grade goalkeepers. He joined the Club from Swansea City’s ground staff and played no small part in Aberystwyth’s success. Who could forget his display against Cardiff City in the Welsh Cup in 1969, when a string of breathtaking saves kept their score down to 3-0 and earned him rave reviews in the national press the next day? (See photo, opposite). He was capped three times at youth level and was reserve Welsh amateur goalkeeper for three seasons in the 1970s.” The Club extends its heartfelt sympathies to Dyfrig’s Family and Friends.
