 At a very difficult time Aberystwyth Town Football Club is pleased to pass on the following message from Club Chaplain Jon Butler:
"Dear all connected with Aberystwyth Town FC, I am writing to you to let you know that you are not alone, nor are you forgotten. I know this current situation can cause feelings of worry, fear and anxiety, I want to do all I can to help you deal with those feelings and to ensure practical support is available to those needing it. Over the last few days we have seen unprecedented change in what we were used to and enjoyed as ordinary, everyday life. Many of you may have already taken steps toward social distancing and/or self-isolation. Whether this is on medical grounds, following advice from the UK Government or otherwise, please know you are still a valued member and very much part of our community. In my previous job as a Police Officer we had a system dubbed the 'welfare check' for colleagues. In its simplest form when an officer was attending an incident and they had not been heard from on the Police radio for a time, a colleague would request through the Control Room for a 'welfare check' to be completed. This 'welfare check' request was transmitted over the Police Radio to obtain a response from the officer in attendance, but also an encouragement to the officer that they had the support and backing of colleagues if necessary. It was broadcast for all to hear, ready to listen to the response and if necessary send support. The attending officer in receipt of the 'welfare check' request was reminded then to share their status and know they were not alone. When football, ordinary activities and gatherings are being suspended and paused, as your Chaplain I want to be available to complete a 'welfare check' with you. I want you to know that while you may not be able to gather with others from the club or to enjoy the everyday activities you are not alone. If there is anything I can do to support or help, no matter how big or small, please do get in contact with me. If you are self-isolating and in need of practical assistance (eg shopping or deliveries), please let me know. I am here to serve you. If you are feeling anxious or worried, I am ready to listen. I am praying for everyone connected with our club. May God bless you with peace that exceeds understanding, and His peace protect your thoughts and feelings. Aber as one!"
