Aberystwyth Town are delighted to announce the acquisition of goalkeeper Dave Jones for the 2023/24 JD Cymru Premier season. A veteran of the Top-Flight with over 330 league appearances as a Robin and multiple European campaigns, 33-year-old Dave makes the move across Mid Wales to become a Seasider!
Following his departure from Shrewsbury Town as a youth player, Dave made his first league start with Newtown AFC at just 17 years old in 2007. He made 60 appearances for The Robins before spells with neighbours Welshpool Town and Caersws - returning to Latham Park in 2014. Dave thereafter held the No.1 shirt until his recent departure in May 2023.
During his spell, Dave amassed 10 continental appearances thanks to qualifying campaigns in the 2015/16 Europa League, and 2021/22 & 2022/23 European Conference Leagues - progressing through the 1st Round on two occasions, beating Valletta in 2015 and HB Torshavn in 2022.
During their most recent campaign, Dave made a save in a penalty shootout at TNS' Park Hall as The Robins went on to win 6-3 and progress to face Spartak Trnava in the 2nd Round.
Now switching Powys for Ceredigion, Dave makes his first move in almost 10 years in search of a new challenge.
Dave told us:
"Aber is a big club with a big history and I’ve always enjoyed playing at Park Avenue - I’m now looking forward to playing there every week!
After speaking to Taff, he made my decision easy. He's done a good job since coming in and managed to keep the club in the league where it belongs, so hopefully this season we can push on from that and climb the table.
I had some great times at Newtown and have been privileged to experience Europe so hopefully I can bring that experience with me! I have already played with a few of the lads over the years and am looking forward to linking up with them again. Here’s to a new chapter, where I can start enjoying my football again!"
"Dave is a very established goalkeeper in the Cymru Premier whose performances have been consistent for so many seasons. His experience will be invaluable to us, giving confidence to the rest of the players in the squad.
He's had interest from other teams in the league, but has chosen to join us - testament to the way we performed in the second half of last season. He is an excellent addition and strengthens our squad moving into the new season."
Croeso i Geredigion, Dave!
