FAW Youth Cup Second Round Sunday 4th November Airbus UK Broughton Under 19s 1 Aberystwyth Town Under 19s 4 Man of the Moment Lee Jenkins followed up his heroics on Friday night with two goals on Sunday, as the Black and Green Under 19s followed up an impressive 4-0 away win in the Central Wales Cup against Newtown with an excellent 4-1 win away to Airbus in the Second Round of the Welsh Cup, writes Manager Bari Morgan. The game earned Aber a hard fought win against a good Wingmakers team who have been flying high themselves in the Welsh Development North league recently. Aberystwyth made one change from the Newtown game which was Oli Farebrother coming into goal instead of Alex Pennock. The game started frantically with both teams trying to gain control of the game. The first chance of the game fell to Aber's number 7 Iwan Lloyd who hit a great shot from the edge of the box following a corner, only for the Airbus keeper to pull off a wonderful save and tip it on to the post. Airbus then started to put pressure on the Black and Green back line where young Lee Jenkins was having a great battle with the big Airbus number 9, Oli Lanceley, with neither player giving the other a minute’s peace. Airbus had two good chances in quick succession just before half time but found keeper Farebrother in fine form in goal for Aberystwyth. The first half ended goalless in a very tightly contested game. When Morgan's men came out for the second half it was evident immediately that they had stepped up their game, as they began to dominate possession and chances. The visitors took a deserved lead in the 52nd minute when following a free kick into the box which was only half cleared, the ball fell to Lee Jenkins on the edge of the box who hit an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. Aberystwyth continued to then look for a second goal and that goal came shortly afterwards when a corner from Steff Gittins was met by Lee Jenkins again to score his second of the game and his third of the weekend, after his winner for the First team against TNS on Friday. Town were now playing with great confidence as they continued to press forward, without giving Airbus a sniff to get back into the game and the third goal arrived when winger Iwan Lloyd broke through the defence to slot past the Airbus keeper, a goal he thoroughly deserved for his excellent performance and work rate all day. Liam Doherty then scored a fourth late on following a good through ball from midfield, finishing brilliantly from the edge of the box. Airbus scored a late consolation from a corner but that didn’t take anything away from what was an excellent second half performance from the team. Aber manager Bari Morgan was delighted for his young team: “It was as good a second half performance as I’ve seen from this group of boys. We went in half time knowing we had done OK in the first half, but knew we had more to give, and in all fairness to every one of the players, they raised their game and we got a deserved win against one of the top teams in the North league”. Aberystwyth Town Under 19’s are now in the last 16 of the FAW Welsh Youth Cup where they have been drawn Away to Swansea City who have won the cup for the last 10 years, to be played on Sunday 25th November.
