Welsh Women's League (WWL) Sunday 2nd September Llangyfelach Ladies 2 Aberystwyth Town Ladies 7 Thanks to a dominant opening day performance, Aber Town Ladies got their new season off to a fantastic start, with goals coming from Tania Wylde (4), Naomi Evans (2) and Helen Evans, writes Steven Brookes. On a very sunny day in South Wales, the Black and Greens got off to a great start. After Caroline Cooper's effort was blocked on the line using a hand, the referee decided to point to spot. Despite being awarded the penalty, the away team were unhappy that referee chose not to play the clear advantage and disallowing Tania Wylde's goal. But it was Wylde who stepped up to take the penalty and confidently scored. The home side then scored an equaliser against the run of play when Claire Lewis had the simple job of putting the ball into the empty net. Aber soon regained the lead though when Cooper played an excellent through ball towards Wylde who poked the ball past the onrushing keeper. Last season's top scorer Naomi Evans scored Aber's third, controlling the ball well before turning and firing the ball into the back of the net. In the second half the Black and Greens continued where they left off as winger Helen Evans scored early on, beating two players on the edge of the area and then finding the top corner with a powerful strike. Tania Wylde then completed her hat-trick beating the keeper from close range with a low shot into the bottom corner. It was the home team that scored the next goal of the match, Jacqueline Maddock with the goal after a quick counter-attack. There was to be no dramatic comeback though as Aber increased their lead again and once again it was Tania Wylde on the scoresheet. After using some great skill to beat a couple of players she was then able to beat the keeper with her strike from a tight angle at the near post. The Ceredigion based side were not going to settle for six though and continued pushing for more goals. With just a few minutes remaining forward Naomi Evans grabbed her second of the game when Wylde passed across the box and Evans finished with a powerful side footed strike. The 7-2 win represented a fantastic start to the season for Aber Town Ladies, who will now hope they can impress again when they play Rhos on Sunday 9th September. Comments are closed.
