Airbus UK Broughton vs Aberystwyth Town
JD Cymru Premier
Friday 24th February
Aberystwyth Town are on the road again this Friday evening, as Anthony Williams side head to North East Wales to take on Airbus UK Broughton looking to pick up three points to reignite a push up the JD Cymru Premier table.
Last Saturday’s match at home to Pontypridd United saw a strong performance from the Black & Greens, but some lapses of concentration at crucial moments meant that Aber had to settle for a point when their efforts arguably merited all three. Elliot Richards 95th minute equaliser was a tough one to take for the home support after seeing ATFC dominate for large periods of the game.
Aber do seem to have preferred home comforts to life on the road so far this season, but supporters have reason to be optimistic ahead of Friday’s journey to The Airfield, as the Black & Greens triumphed 2-1 in the Phase 1 fixture back on the opening night of the season. The same scoreline was repeated at Park Avenue in September.
Friday’s hosts have endured a difficult season on their return to the Cymru Premier after two seasons in the Cymru North and last weekends defeat to Caernarfon Town confirmed that they will be relegated from the Cymru Premier this season.
There will be some familiar faces in the host’s squad this Friday. Phil Perry spent the first half of this season at Park Avenue, making 16 appearances in all competitions before switching to Airbus in January. Adam Davies also had a year long spell at Park Avenue between 2020 & 2021 before moving to The Airfield, where he had a record breaking season last year – hitting 30 goals to fire The Wingmakers to the Cymru North title.
The most familiar face will be in the opposition dugout however. Airbus’ Manager Jamie Reed had three different spells at Park Avenue and earned legendary status thanks to a hat-trick on his home debut in August 2007 against TNS, which helped the Black & Greens to a 5-1 victory over the reigning champions. He then returned for separate spells in 2014 and 2021, netting a number of important goals in both spells.
The Hollingsworth Group Stadium can be found with postcode CH4 0DR and tickets are priced at £8 for Adults and £4 for Concessions.
