Aberystwyth Town vs Aber Valley FC
Welsh Cup 2nd Round Saturday 4th September 2pm Kick-Off The Seasiders make a welcome return to Welsh Cup action for the first time in 18 months, as South Wales Alliance League side Aber Valley visit Park Avenue for this 2nd Round tie. To the disappointment of many, last year’s competition was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is a competition that ATFC have done well in in recent years – reaching the final in 2009, 2014 & 2018 – and one that always captures the interest of supporters. Antonio Corbisiero has added to his squad ahead of this match, with Louis Bradford returning to the club on loan from The New Saints until January. Supporters will have no doubt heard about the impressive partnership Louis formed with Lee Jenkins during last seasons behind closed doors matches and will be looking forward to seeing the pair reunited at the heart of the Seasiders defence. This weekends opponents, Aber Valley FC, play in the South Wales Alliance Premier League, which is at Tier 4 of the Welsh football pyramid. They were crowned Champions of Division One in 2020. The Premier Division offers direct entry into the newly formed Ardal Leagues and Aber Valley currently sit in mid table, with 2 wins from 4 league matches played this season. Although a club called Aber Valley played in the Welsh Football League as far back as the early 1960’s, the current club was formed in 2000. Originally called Aber Valley YMCA, they took on their current name in 2015, and play at Abertridwr Park. Aber Valley are jointly managed by Dean Wood and Neil Lloyd-Meek with Leigh Williams, Gareth Roberts and Jonathan Midgley making up their coaching team. Former Aberbargoed Buds stirker Scott Armitage is currently their top goalscorer with 6 goals, whilst Ben Thornton and Jacob James have three goals each. To set up this tie, they have already had seen off Tredegar Town, Treowen Stars, and Porthcawl Town Athletic, who were defeated 2-0 through goals by Shane Reynolds and Nathan Radzimierski. We are expecting at least 6 full coaches of fans from our visitors, which is some truly incredible support, and we sincerely hope all travelling fans enjoy the match and their day in Ceredigion. A warm welcome at Park Avenue will be guaranteed and hopefully with the Black & Green Army in good voice, the match will be played out to a terrific atmosphere. Tickets are £7 for Adults / £4 for Concessions / Under 16’s free - please be aware that kick-off is at 2pm NOT the usual 2.30pm time and that our gates accept only cash, apologies for any inconvenience!
