Aberystwyth Town vs Newtown
JD Cymru Premier Friday 10th October 8pm Kick-Off It is a second straight home game in a row for the Black & Greens this Friday, as they welcome nearest neighbours Newtown to Aberystwyth University Park Avenue Stadium. Aber come into this game on the back of a battling performance against reigning the Champions, Connah's Quay Nomads, where a draw may have been a fairer result given the Seasiders second half performance. This will be the first chance that fans have to applaud Antonio Corbisiero and John Owen for winning Manager and Player of the Month for November 2021! Everyone at the club was delighted to hear the news and congratulations to both on these well-deserved honours. Friday’s visitors, Newtown, are having an excellent season so far and currently sit in 3rd place in the table. Chris Hughes’ side currently look well placed to challenge for a return to Europe again, following their matches in the Europa Conference League in the summer against Dundalk FC. Their goals return of 30 in the 15 games played so far, is only bettered by The New Saints and Flint Town United, the two teams that sit directly above them. This has been helped by the signing of Aaron Williams, who has hit 20 goals so far this season, including 11 in the JD Cymru Premier. Williams is joined in the Top Scorers charts by the ever-reliable Nick Rushton, who has scored 5 goals in 14 matches; Fumpa Mwandwe who has 4 in 15 and Jordan Evans who has hit 3 in 10. Newtown come into this match on the back of a 2-1 win at home to Barry Town United last Saturday. They fell behind early on, but James Davies had the Robins level on 59 minutes, before an excellent strike from George Hughes three minutes later gave them all three points. The reverse fixture in September will be remembered for Jamie Veale’s remarkable 50-yard lob which gave Aber a 1-0 lead. Jonathan Evans then secured all three points in the second half, after Callum Roberts had equalised, as the Seasiders took all three points back to Ceredigion. The Sgorio cameras will be beaming this game live to the nation on Facebook, but you can’t beat being there in person, so if you can make it down to Park Avenue then make sure you do … this Mid-Wales Derby is always worth it!! Tickets are £7 for Adults, £4 for concessions, U16’s Free! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In accordance with the FAW Return to Play Protocols for Alert Level 0 Regulations, published in August 2021, please do not enter the ground if You have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 28 days You have been or are currently a contact of a COVID-19 case or a suspected case You are currently self-isolating You are feeling unwell You have a cough, throat pain, muscle pain, unusual weakness, short of breath, chest pain, any palpitations (abnormal heart rate), diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, a loss of taste or smell or any other signs or symptoms of COVID-19 Please refer to HSE guidelines (https://www.hse.gov.uk/coronavirus/index.htm) on how you should proceed should any of these conditions apply to you If you are in any doubt please do not attend the fixture The Board of Directors, Aberystwyth Town Football Club Comments are closed.
