Aberystwyth Town Ladies 6 Llangyfelach Ladies 1 Welsh Women's League Sunday 20th May 2018 Aber made it four wins in just eight days with a comfortable victory against Llangyfelach Ladies thanks to a hat-trick from Hannah Pusey (left) as well as goals from Stevie Cook, Caroline Cooper and Naomi Evans, writes Steven Brookes. For the second week in succession the Black and Greens were having play on a Saturday and a Sunday. After winning all three of those games they were determined to make it four out of four and a sixth successive win overall. A quarter of an hour in and the home side were ahead. Hannah Pusey pulled the ball back to Stevie Cook and the midfielder's strike ended up in the far corner of the net. Aber's lead did not last long though: just two minutes later Bronwyn Ridd scored an outstanding goal, spotting Aber's goalkeeper Ffion Ashman off her line and her first-time strike dipped just in time to level the scores. The Black and Greens were back ahead after 29 minutes. Ffiona Evans used her pace to beat the right back before her excellent cross fell to the feet of Pusey who side footed the ball into the net. Aber began to dominate the match in latter stages of the half but were still far from their best. Thirteen minutes into the second half Aber Ladies increased their lead when Caroline Cooper beat the keeper at the near post with a shot from the left side of the box. The home team were looking a lot more relaxed on the ball in the second half and scored a fourth on 71 minutes. Hannah Pusey showed some great skill to beat the full back before crossing, Tania Wylde's effort was then saved but Aber's top scorer Naomi Evans reacted quickest to score her 17th goal of the season. Pusey then scored her second of the game with just nine minutes remaining. Helen Evans used her pace and strength down the left-wing before pulling the ball back to the Aber forward who side footed the ball past the keeper. There was still time for Aber Ladies to increase their lead further and Helen Evans beat the full back to the ball then squared it to Pusey and the Black and Greens forward tapped the ball into an empty to complete her hat-trick and score her eighth goal of the season. Despite the victory and still remaining unbeaten in the league Aber Town Ladies can no longer be promoted after Briton Ferry's 2-0 victory against third place Barry Town United Ladies earned them the Championship Trophy. Aberystwyth would like to congratulate Briton Ferry on what has been a fantastic season and wish them all the best for next season. Aber Ladies have just one game remaining this season: a home match against Caerphilly Castle on Sunday 27th May when the Black and Greens will be desperate to complete an impressive unbeaten league campaign.
