Two days on from his appointment as First Team Manager at Aberystwyth Town FC, Neville Powell gave his first interview to atfc.org.uk this afternoon, and he was on fine form ahead of tomorrow afternoon's first friendly of 2017, against Llanelli at Park Avenue (ko 2.30pm). Welcome to Aber Nev. How does it feel to be back? "It feels fantastic! I've been out for nine months and was itching to get back, then Aber gave me the chance!" What are your impressions of the Club so far? "I met everyone at the Club last night and they made me feel really welcome. I'd love to repay them by getting the Club up the League. The set up is great, Aber Town has everything and it's a proper Football Club. The team may have underachieved recently but I'll be looking to get us back where we should be. Working with enthusiastic people like Wayne Jones gives me the buzz to want to do well. " Having met the squad for the first time last night what are your impressions? "It's a good group of players which is very attack minded. Hopefully with a few more additions we'll do well. We'll start defending from the front: everyone has a responsibility there and we will work on that. We just need a bit more experience and I'm sure we'll improve on last year's finish." What are your thoughts on next season? "We definitely should be challenging for the Top Six. This is the big aim for every team in the League and we are no different. There are a lot of competitive teams in the League now but if we are well organised and hard to beat, and our front three of Kellaway, Owen and Borrelli can chip in with ten goals each we'll be fine. The margins can be quite narrow so being well organised, keeping things simple and having a good spirit is what I've done at other Clubs. We'll do that at Aber and if we can add the right Players and get 110% off everyone, we'll be successful." Do you have a message for the supporters? "As a Player and Manager coming here as the away team, you always thought you were going to get a tough game and Park Avenue seemed a bit of a fortress, especially on Friday nights. We want to make the place a Fortress again and if we start well, the crowds will go up and become our 12th man. If we win our home games we won't be far away from the Top Six. We need to produce a team to attract the fans and I can't wait to get started. The Club is thriving to be successful and I'd love to bring that to the Club." Neville Powell will be attending his first match as Aber Town Manager tomorrow afternoon as the Black and Greens host Llanelli with a 2.30pm kick off. A Match preview will follow later.
