JD Welsh Premier League
Saturday 10th March (2:30p.m Kick Off) Newtown v Aberystwyth Town Aberystwyth Town will look to continue their recent fine run of form as they travel to face Mid Wales rivals Newtown at Latham Park on Saturday afternoon. Aber are unbeaten in four games in all competitions, most recently booking a place in the JD Welsh Cup semi-finals after a brilliant 3-1 away victory at Carmarthen on Tuesday night. The black and greens will now look to close to within 3 points of the Robins in the league table with a victory on Saturday afternoon. Aber manager Nev Powell was ecstatic with his side's performance as they stormed into the Welsh cup semi-finals on Tuesday evening at Richmond Park. In an interview with Aber Town's YouTube channel, Powell commented "I'm thoroughly delighted with the lads, after a long trip down to Carmarthen they've shown what they can do, and they thoroughly deserve their place in the semi-finals". He went on to add, "going forward we were excellent, and we're scoring goals freely in most of our games at the moment". One man who deserves special praise after another superb performance in midweek is striker John Owen, who appears to be playing with supreme confidence following his selection for Wales' C Team squad to face England at Jenner Park in a few weeks' time. The Criccieth cracker netted another long range strike on Tuesday night and played a big part in assisting Town's third goal of the evening scored by Malcolm Melvin, and the Aber faithful will hope for more of the same from the front man this weekend. Saturday's hosts Newtown will also enter the game full of confidence, after defeating Llandudno in the Welsh cup on Tuesday night to set up a mouthwatering semi-final clash with Nev Powell's side in early April. Chris Hughes' team currently lie six points above Aber in the league table, having won two and lost two of their last four games in all competitions. The sides have already met twice this season, with Newtown running out 4-0 winners back in September, before Aber turned the tables by winning 3-0 at Park Avenue in November. In what promises to be a fantastic battle between the Mid Wales rivals, kick off at Latham Park is at 2:30 p.m. Aber's players will no doubt hope to be roared on by their vociferous away supporters as they look to climb up the JD Welsh Premier League table.
