Uwchgynghrair JD Cymru Premier League Sul/Sunday 21 Ebrill/April Tref Aberystwyth Town 3 Pontypridd Unedig/United 0 Dangosodd Aber eu pwerau anorchfygol i oroesi ar Goedlan y Parc prynhawn Sul wrth guro Pontypridd Unedig 3-0 i sicrhau eu lle yn y Cymru Prem y flwyddyn nesaf. Peniodd Louis Bradford y Dre ar y blaen ar ol 41 munud, a deg munud i mewn i’r ail hanner Steff Davies dyblodd y fantais, cyn i Jonathan Evans sgorio gol ddramatig yn yr 89fed munud i gadarnahu’r buddugoliaeth o flaen torf anferth. Aber Town once again displayed their survival superpowers at Park Avenue on Sunday afternoon by defeating Pontypridd United 3-0 to secure their place in next season’s JD Cymru Prem. Louis Bradford nodded Town into the lead on 41 minutes, and Steff Davies made it two ten minutes into the second half, before Jonathan Evans scored a dramatic 89th minute third to kill off the game in front of a huge crowd. The Black and Greens loyal supporters are always there when needed and a bumper crowd of 824 turned up to create a vibrant pre match atmosphere on an overcast afternoon. A lively start saw Ryan Bevan test the immaculate Dave Jones from distance, before Iwan Lewis had an attempt parried by Ash Morris at the other end. Owen Pritchard threatened for the visitors with a blocked shot, then Luke Cummings fizzed an attempt past the far post, but from then on Aber took control. Jake Canavan had a low shot defleceted for a corner, the prominent John Owen had a volley saved then Davies turned his man and bore down on goal only to send his attempt just past the far post, agonizingly wide. At the other end Jones’ safe hands were reassuring for home fans and apart from Clayton Green’s blocked shot Town were never in serious danger. Then a Canavan corner sailed to the back post and Bradford scored with a deft back header for probably his biggest ever goal in Black and Green, celebrated wildly in the Dias Stand. Jones came out well to deny Ben Ahmun and Aber went in at the break deservedly ahead.
Sensing the need for a second Aber enjoyed some early corners, but in truth were lucky to concede only a free kick on the edge of the area, which lead to a corner and a wild attempt over the bar from Jarrad Wright. A seemingly endless succession of Aber corners then eventually told when Billy Kirkman’s delivery caused chaos in the box and Davies pounced like all good strikers to notch a second goal which was so crucial in the context of the afternoon. Town were still dangerous on the break, and somehow Ponty survived an exciting break involving Lewis and Kirkman. Sub Owain Jones had a shot blocked and Ethan Vaughan clipped an attempt over the bar, then super sub Johnny Evans almost put Park Ave in raptures, but his shot on goal was deflected for a corner. Evans’ next contribution was to sprint down the wing and send in a super cross which just evaded Canavan, and Town were desperate for a third, especially when news of Colwyn Bay’s late goal filtered through. Bradford made a swashbuckling 70 yard run but couldn’t quite get a shot in, but it mattered not as the Black and Greens finally got their third with the best move of the game, when Lewis fed sub Alex Darlington, and his sumptuous flick fell sweetly for Evans down the left flank, who converted in his trademark flamboyant style into the far corner to send Town into dreamland. Aber easily saw out the htree minutes of injury time and the job was done. Under immense pressure the Black and Greens delivered with a thoroughly professional job done and a huge win. The magnitude of the result is so much the greater as Colwyn Bay won their game, meaning that anything less than three points would have relegated Aber into the second tier – but Anthony Williams’ team of battlers have done it once again, and those of a Green persuasion can sleep sweetly tonight, safe in the knowledge that 2024/25 will be another Cymru Premier season at Park Avenue.
