Aberystwyth Town return home for their first Saturday home match since the first match of the season this weekend, with Caernarfon Town the visitors for what is a repeat of the final match of last season, when Aber famously secured a last minute victory to continue their ever present membership of the JD Cymru Premier. Anthony Williams and his team will be hoping for a similar outcome this weekend, albeit perhaps in less dramatic circumstances, to help kickstart the 2023/24 campaign during which Aber are yet to pick up a victory despite some encouraging performances.
Caernarfon will, as always, prove to be a tough opponent. Under Richard Davies, who was given the Managerial reigns on a permanent basis during the summer, they started the season well with victories at Colwyn Bay and at home to Newtown. This was followed by back to back draws against Haverfordwest County & Bala, before they tasted defeat for the first time this season last weekend against Connahs Quay Nomads. Last season, Aber proved to have the advantage in this fixture, winning 3 out of the 4 meetings between the two sides, including both matches at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue. There will be plenty of familiar faces in the Caernarfon line up. Goalkeeper Lewis Webb spent the first half of last season on loan in Ceredigion before returning to Swansea City, whilst Ben Wynne spent the latter half of the season before with Aber having joined from Cefn Druids in January 2022, before departing for The Oval the following summer. Adam Davies had a year with Aber during Gavin Allen’s tenure, whilst Darren Thomas spent six months at the club under Ian Hughes. Perhaps the most recognisable face in the opposition line up however will be former Seasiders captain Marc Williams. The experienced forward arrived at Park Avenue in January 2019 and was a regular goalscorer in Black & Green before departing for Llandudno in Summer 2021. Following the resounding success of Aber Town’s last Junior League day in April, when over 250 league players supported and inspired the team in their decisive game against Caernarfon, the Club are delighted to repeat the offer this Saturday for the match against Caernarfon Town which kicks off at 2.30pm. Entry will cost £5 for parents accompanying Junior League Player to the game. Standard Admission prices at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue for this season are set at £8 for adults, £5 for concessions, £2 for Secondary School age kids, and Primary School and younger are free. See you there! The club is also pleased to host a Half-Time Penalty Shootout for Primary School children at each home game going forward -- starting this Saturday! Comments are closed.
