Aberystwyth Town Women face Genero Adran North side Llanfair United tomorrow night, in the final of the Central Wales Cup. The Seasiders progressed to the final of the competition after a 2-0 win over Berriew away from home. Tania Wylde opened the scoring from the penalty spot with 25 minutes left to play, before Jess April booked Aber’s place in the final. It means Town will have the opportunity to claim the CWFA Cup once again, something the club has done eight out of the last nine times in the competition.
They face a Llanfair side who, like Aber, have concluded their respective league season. The Adran North outfit finished 6th in the second tier, gaining 12 points from 14 games. Llanfair beat Tregaron Turfs to get into the final. Emma Williams opened the scoring, before Mary Griffiths completed a 2-0 win at Latham Park. Tomorrow’s finalists have already faced each other this season, having met in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup First Round. Aber ran out 3-0 winners back in October. Amy Jenkins bagged a brace, before Lleucu Mathias completed the scoring for the Seasiders. In a repeat of last years’ final which Aber won 7-0 at Victoria Park, Town will be looking for the same outcome as the 2022/23 finale. Kelly Thomas said ahead of the final: “This cup means a lot to us as a club. Llanfair always put up a good fight, so we are looking forward to getting stuck into a competitive game on Friday night to hopefully bring it home!” Tomorrow’s final will be played at Y Weirglodd, home of Rhayader, with a 7:30pm kickoff.
